A Message from Mike Rilee, State Director - District 19

In Maryland we've had our own kind of March Madness, with record-breaking growth and activity by you and your COSA-MD team. On March 3, the House of Delegates heard our testimony in the House Rules and Executive Nominations Committee. Our volunteers and essay winners Cody and Elly reprised their in-person Senate testimony for the delegates, with our lead sponsor Delegate Mark Fisher (MD-D27C) starting us off with a passionate call for our Article V Convention of States Resolution (HJ6/SJ8).

We are extremely grateful for the courage and leadership of Delegate Fisher and Senator Justin Ready (MD-D5) for bringing the COS resolution into committees on both sides of the General Assembly making it a true joint resolution.

COS supporters from across the state have been writing, emailing, and phoning their legislators telling them of their support of our COS resolution. Special volunteers called TelePatriots have been phoning constituents in districts of key committee members, activating our neighbors to contact their legislators in those committees.

Our nationally recognized Communications team is turning out informative and motivation content like the "Building Blocks" video above and has been keeping us all up-to-date on what's been going on in Maryland with COS.

On the leadership front we have great news. In Montgomery County we have two new District Captains (Mary Jane and Ryan), another in Southern Maryland (David), and in Harford (Jack) too!

  • Mary Jane Perraut, District Captain (MD-18)
  • Ryan Ward, District Captain (MD-14)
  • David Hafer, District Captain (MD-29A)
  • Jack Benigni, District Captain (MD-34A)

If you're in their district or nearby, introduce yourself, attend district events, or maybe even volunteer to help. Being a District Captain is an important role, there's a lot to learn and do. We're exceptionally grateful for all of our "DC's"!

Finally, we are grateful to everyone who has stepped forward to volunteer. In fact, if you've volunteered and are waiting for someone to contact you, rest assured we are eager to talk with you about how you can help. The legislative session is a very busy time for us and your Grassroots team is working as quickly as we can to contact you talk with you about how to become part of the solution that's as big as the problem. Please feel free to contact us as well!

For Liberty!

How to be a COSA TelePatriot

All COSA supporters can (and should) be running the COSAction App on their mobile devices. To be a TelePatriot you will need to be running the COSAction App on your phone. You will also need to be a volunteer activist within your COSA state team. Next, let your state team leadership know you would like to be a TelePatriot.

Spotlight on Team Maryland:  Meet Leslie Jenkins, Grassroots Coordinator

As Maryland's Grassroots Coordinator, I have set a personal goal to develop 6 additional Regional Captains. Right now Maryland has 2 Regional Captains. What does this mean?  We have multiple District Captains who will become Regional Captains. But in order to do this we need to build up our volunteer base to on-board and develop more District Captains.

I can assure you, you have what it takes to volunteer. We all do. I am here to tell you that everyone has something to offer. Everyone has a skill and a gift. Whether it be to help set up meetings, door greeters, letter writers, getting petitions signed, block walking, calling and writing legislators. We need those willing to spread the word. Everyone can make a difference!

Diary from the People's Convoy:  Rick Bibbee, Western Maryland Regional Captain

My phone rang on Wednesday, March 2nd. It was a Convention of States Action District Captain from Ohio. He wanted to know if I was in Hagerstown and if he could give my number to a representative of The People’s Convoy.

I, of course, said yes.

We connected with a few other folks in the Hagerstown area to support the Convoy. One gentleman in particular was coordinating the Hagerstown volunteer response. At 4pm on Thursday, March 3rd our partnership  began by setting up a coffee stand at the Speedway.

I supplied 3 tables and 1 coffee pot. By Friday, March 4th, we exchanged the coffee pot for a borrowed 100 cup pot. There were 100 trucks at the Speedway from the northeast US. By Friday evening, a few hundred more arrived. We put out a call for more supplies!

After helping serve over 200 gallons of coffee a day I’ve learned that Coffee is the Lifeblood of Truckers, and Truckers are what makes America Run. I've learned that our mission is their mission.
