TODAY: Convention of States Maryland with Mark Meckler Testified in House of Delegates

Published in Surge Article Blog on March 03, 2022 by Maria Moungelis Bedard

Nearly 200 citizens tuned in live and over 13,000 have watched the Maryland House of Delegates Rules & Executive Nominations Committee Hearing this morning.

Nineteen Convention of States volunteers - including our two COSA Maryland essay contest winners -  offered their testimony in favor of HJ06 and implored the Committee members to send the Article V Convention of States resolution sponsored by Delegate Mark Fisher (27C) to the full house.

Rounding out the testimony was Convention of States President Mark Meckler.

Mark invoked the history of Maryland’s “first citizen” Charles Carroll of Carrollton. Carroll represented Maryland as a signer to the Declaration of Independence. He served in the Continental Congress and simultaneously participated in the framing of a constitution for Maryland. He was elected to the Maryland Senate in 1781, and to the first Federal Congress in 1788. Senator Carroll recognized the importance of state sovereignty, thus resigned his position with the Federal Congress and returned to the State Senate in 1790.

This is what Convention of States volunteers and Mark Meckler asked of the House Committee:

Recognize the unique and important obligations of the
state legislatures by supporting HJ06 Article V Convention of States resolution.

Stand with over 28,000 Marylanders and 3+ million Americans who support an Article V Convention of States. This is the solution bigger than the problem.

The framers of the Constitution created Article V because they foresaw the ability of federal leaders becoming corrupted with power and overstepping their boundaries – to become the same tyrants they fought a Revolutionary War to overcome.

Let's get back to the basics of our Constitution and our civic responsibilities.

Please contact:

  1. your legislators here and let them know you support HJ06 and SJ08 and
