TN Convention of States: Meet our Growing Team!

Published in Blog on November 28, 2017 by Unknown

The TN COSP is growing and making an impact in Tennessee. We've accomplished a lot this year! But you wouldn't know that – because we've failed to tell you! Well, we are correcting that, starting with this communication!

But before we send you messages about what's been happening, we want you to know who we are, what we are all about, how we are organized -- and how YOU can have a role in saving our Republic, returning power to Tennessee and, most importantly, returning YOUR liberty and self-governance to YOU.

It's about Self-governance, not just the Article V Convention

We are more than an Article V movement. The Convention of States Project is about YOU exercising YOUR God-given self-governance more and more each day. The Article V convention to limit federal power is just the start of a longer-term and broader vision for self-governance

We are building a grassroots organization in Tennessee not just for the next few years and not focused only on limiting federal power through the convention. Our vision, and our organization, is being built to last for many decades and to limit government at all levels – federal, state and local.

Be Kind

Politics can be ugly. Not with us. Our motto is “Be Kind”. Everything else flows from that. We are passionate about liberty. We are passionate about our republic. We are passionate about restoring our God-given liberties. Sometimes we disagree with others. We are firm in communicating our convictions, but we always remain kind.

Servant-leadership

We are different from other groups. First, we are all volunteers. No one in Tennessee receives compensation, or even expense reimbursement, for what we do. We have pure motives – restoring our republic and returning self-governance to our land

Second, unlike other groups which focus on their leaders, we focus on YOU. We want to equip YOU and train YOU to exercise YOUR self-governance. Our organization is “upside down”. YOU are at the top. YOUR servant leaders are at the bottom.

The Tennessee Organization, from top to bottom:

Note: We recently added about 15 servant leaders to our leadership team. If you see an “Apply here” link, that role is open and we're looking for volunteers to help. In all cases, you will be joining a small team of committed volunteers. You will grow some great relationships while helping to save our Republic! Contact any one of us to learn more about any role and whether it is a fit for your skills and available time.

Here are links to the organization sections if you want to skip to a specific section: You, District Captains, Regional Captains, Grassroots Follow-up Team and Call Team, Grassroots Coordinators, Communications: Social Media and Broadcast Media, Legislative Liaisons, Coalitions, Systems, Education, State Directors.

YOU!

We have well over 20,000 identified supporters in Tennessee – more than 200 per State House District. You are NOT alone! All of our efforts are directed at helping YOU work with others in your area to exercise YOUR self-governance

We can start you out simply—maybe just sharing some social media posts or attending meetings. You can grow from there -- sending emails to your state lawmakers, calling your state lawmakers, conducting meetings with your state lawmakers, visiting your lawmakers in Nashville, attending hearings in Nashville, calling your neighbors, scheduling meetings, scheduling speakers for groups in your area, making presentations, and so on. When we ask you to do something, we try to give you everything you need to know to act and to make it as simple as possible

Most of the leaders in the Tennessee COSP started with ZERO political experience – but are now making a significant impact. We want to “pay it forward” by helping YOU grow your knowledge, skills and, most importantly, your confidence to act

Let us know you want to volunteer here: http://conventionofstates.com/volunteer Volunteering is on a “per request” basis – as you have time. We will let you know what help we need, exactly what to do and when to do it

If you are one of those supporters who has not taken action beyond signing the petition  or sharing a social media post, you will see many opportunities to “step up to the plate” and do more. (Volunteer Oportunities)

District Captains (99 Districts):

Your District Captain serves YOU and the other people in a State House District. The District Captain is there to answer questions, inform and serve the volunteers in their district. They help you know what's going on in Tennessee and help you get involved. They also help YOU build relationships with YOUR State Representatives and Senators. They also organize activities and build a self-sustaining organization within each District. Tennessee has 99 House districts. We currently have about 20 active district captains. We are identifying and training new District Captains regularly. If you are interested in being a District Captain, please Apply here and answer some quick questions. We will call you within a week or so.

Regional Captains (15 regions):

The regional captain supports about 5 to 8 district captains in a region of the state. They train, equip and organize efforts within a region. The regions and our current Regional Captains are:

Grassroots Follow-up Team and Call Team

Our follow-up team sends welcome emails to new supporters and volunteers. When they have time, they also call new supporters and volunteers. Our Call Teams calls supporters in an area to promote events and legislative calls to action. If you have a cheerful and friendly voice and love talking to people, this is the role for you! This is CRITICAL to the success of our events and calls to action.

We currently have five team members, but need about 15 to 20. If you are interested in being a member of the follow-up team or the call team, please go here (and click on the follow-up team application).

In our four short years as a team in Tennessee, we have made dozens of radio appearances across the state and have had innumerable letters to the editor published. We've also been interviewed on a public access TV series. We are currently building out a new team to leverage media more aggressively, more broadly and more consistently across the state. Legislative Liaisons:

Our legislative liaisons are the “face” of our organization to the Tennessee General Assembly. They respond to inquiries from legislators, set legislative strategies, monitor bills and resolutions in the General Assembly and count votes when there are bills we are working (for or against). We have three Divisional Legislative Liaisons and one State Director for Legislative Affairs. Each of these leaders support the Divisional GC's, Regional and District Captains and their interactions with legislators.
