Year in review: Michael Farris returning to COS

Published in Blog on December 28, 2022 by Brianna Kraemer

This week we're recapping some of the greatest highlights of the year for the Convention of States movement, and the Reclaiming Liberty Leadership Summit is near the top of our list.

Not only did a record amount of grassroot activists and supporters attend the event in Orlando from all 50 states, but a familiar face announced his return to the organization.

"I called Mark [Meckler] and said, is there a way I can return to Convention of States," Michael Farris said at the Summit. "So as of January 1, I'll be doing two things. I'll be helping ADF (Alliance Defending Freedom) and I will be enthusiastically also helping Convention the States – and we're gonna push it over the top."

Farris co-founded Convention of States Action with Mark Meckler. He left the organization in 2017 to pursue a new endeavor as the President, CEO and General Counsel of Alliance Defending Freedom, the world’s premiere defender of religious freedom.

The Summit was a momentous part of this past year and kicking off the new year with Michael Farris back is sure to bring substantial progress in calling for an Article V convention.

"Walk with courageous hope," Farris encouraged. "When the time's right, God's gonna deliver the victory."

Other featured speakers included former Senator Rick Santorum, who said the COS movement is at the core of a generation that saves America; and Mark Levin, who proclaimed "there’s nothing more worth the fight than a Convention of States." Steve Deace said this game called America will soon end if we don't act, and We the People are currently behind on the scoreboard.

The gathering brought new friendships and allowed patriots to receive training while listening to the nation's top activists in the fight against federal government tyranny.

It takes recruiting, training, inspiring, and encouraging in order to advance forward. As the year comes to a close, we look back at the Summit with appreciation for bringing so many patriots together and cultivating a strong grassroots as we head into 2023.

As January approaches, consider the ways you can step up to the day's challenges in new ways. At COS, we have high hopes for 2023, and we can't do it without the help of our growing grassroots.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
