There’s one threatening aspect of an Article V Convention of States: the deep state has no power to influence the outcome of such a historic and far-reaching event.
Resentment towards the calling of a Convention of States has crept into the shadows of our growing grassroots movement. Who wouldn’t want term limits, a balanced budget and power restraints imposed on federal bureaucrats, right?
While the majority of Americans among both political parties are for this constitutional solution, the Washington establishment would never advocate for a cause that would make them completely irrelevant and powerless.
The attacks against the COSA mission have grown in just the past month as popularity for a Convention of States has increased. Most recently, the New York Times launched a stark campaign against COS in a new hit piece. The notorious, leftist advocacy paper reacted to what could only be perceived as a threat to their power.
“Elements on the right have for years been waging a quiet but concerted campaign to convene a gathering to consider changes to the Constitution. They hope to take advantage of a never-used aspect of Article V, which says in part that Congress, “on the application of the legislatures of two-thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments,” the Times writes.
Elements on the far right? The three topics of discussion are anything but extreme, and as recent polling suggests, Americans of every background overwhelmingly support this method to rein in the federal government.
With an extensive base of supporters, volunteers and staff based across the entire nation, COS is becoming more and more foreseeable in the eyes of all Americans. Thus, the NYT, MSNBC, Business Insider and Yahoo have unified to attack what they see as a “threat,” – which only reaffirms our course of action.
There’s been 27 amendments to the Constitution by Congress using the powers provided under Article V of the Constitution. This defeats the entire premise the NYT and other left-wing media outlets are attempting to spew. A runaway convention is impossible and any proposed amendment would need 38 states to ratify in order to become law – that's a super majority and would require unified support.
The motivation to roadblock our mission has become a strategic goal of today’s elitists in opposition to federal power constraints. While many question the legitimacy of the media's narrative and in turn end up supporting COS, some respectable figures are misinformed by outside groups, such as the well-known Doctor Robert Malone.
Well-intentioned Americans sometimes mistake a Convention of States for a constitutional convention. Others try to equate the two in order to intentionally mislead the public, like the media has done. Whatever the misconception, it's important to know the difference between these radically different events.
A Convention of States would propose amendments to the Constitution on the basis of three specific topics, while a constitutional convention would completely rewrite what we already have. Learn more here.
The scariest part to the elites is that the federal government won’t be central to the convening of a 50-state convention. It will be the states and their delegates, and none of the D.C. swamp will have a say in the matter at all.
“We are not a threat to the soul of this country; we are a threat to the entrenched deep state in our federal government,” writes a COSA volunteer. “They try to paint us as extremists because they know we are gaining ground.”
As many Americans see it today, the Constitution is already in danger by the progressive ruling class. Whether it’s privacy, the right to bear arms, free speech or free religious expression, the Supreme Court’s recent rulings prove that these fundamental rights are under full attack.
Politicians and the mainstream media know that fear controls, but we see this as the only legitimate option left. Campaign slogans, elections and career politicians are ineffective at bringing meaningful change to a deeply-connected establishment.
Our fight for American freedom is working and our movement is growing thanks to the untrusted media shining a light on COS.
