Sen. Tom Coburn to Dr. James Dobson: A Convention of States can restore freedom, independence, and prosperity (Part II)

Yesterday we published Part I of Dr. James Dobson's fascinating interview with Convention of States Senior Advisor Sen. Tom Coburn. They discussed our nation's worst financial problems and how a Convention of States can address those issues.

Today we're excited to bring you Part II! In the segment below, Senator Coburn explains how a Convention of States can stop the spread of socialism and restore freedom and independence to the millions of Americans who are fighting to protect it.

"What I can tell you is there's a lot of Americans that love this country, that want to see us get back on the right foot, that want freedom and independence restored, and let decision making be made at home. If we get there, what we will do is restore our republic. We'll guarantee a future of prosperity for our kids and grandkids, and we will cheat history out of another republic collapse," he said.

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention.
