‘Muzzling conservative voices’; Newsmax CENSORED, Trump, DeSantis come to the defense

Published in Blog on February 03, 2023 by Jakob Fay

Last week, AT&T’s DirecTV dropped Newsmax from live TV in a shocking display of bias and suppression. Newsmax is a great distributor of information about Convention of States, not to mention a popular alternative to the mainstream media. DirecTV alleged that the popular conservative network was unprofitable, but Newsmax retorted that this is a blatant attempt to silence those who oppose the corrupt political establishment.

Several elected officials warned that DirecTV’s actions against “disfavored speech” constitute political censorship. “DirecTV’s decision follows recent revelations of collusion between Big Tech companies and Democrat officials to label conservative speech as ‘misinformation’ and censor it,” wrote several U.S senators in a letter provided exclusively to The Hill. “The silencing of conservative speech at the request of government officials is a direct assault on free speech and a threat to democracy.”

Newsmax suggested that DirecTV’s censorship may be an attempt to skew news coverage in favor of establishment media outlets with left-leaning biases in advance of the 2024 presidential election.

“Direct TV is muzzling conservative voices because there will be presidential elections in 2024,” the digital media company claimed in a petition demanding that their cable news channel be reinstated.

"I, for one, will be dropping all association with AT&T and DIRECTV,” said former president Trump, himself a 2024 candidate.

Another likely 2024 presidential contender, Governor Ron DeSantis, bashed the television company for its obvious bias. “[T]here should be no ideological litmus test or any kind of test when it comes to these big companies who can make the decision to make or break a news network or any type of network,” the governor stated. “And they’ll give different rationales for why they don’t want to do it, but the reality is they have so much other content that is very lightly viewed and yet they keep that on and it seems it’s… One America News [another alternative media channel that DirecTV de-platformed last year] and… Newsmax who are being targeted, so I think it does warrant investigation.”

It’s clear that the political establishment is cracking down on conservative dissent. An attack on Newsmax is an attack on all freethinking Americans who the mainstream media wants to silence. The federal government has coerced big tech to suppress free speech before, and it will do it again if we do not speak up while we still have a voice.

To drain the federal government of its undue power and corruption, sign the Convention of States petition below.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
