Merrick Garland's solution to America’s problems? More gov. power.

Published in Blog on March 02, 2023 by Jakob Fay

Joe Biden’s attorney general Merrick Garland has come under heavy fire for “politicizing” the Department of Justice (DOJ), haphazardly abusing institutions of power against political opponents. Last year, for instance, Garland was slammed for sending armed SWAT agents to arrest a nonviolent, pro-life father of seven. And who can forget when he weaponized the federal government against “terrorist-like” parents?

Needless to say, when the AG appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, he was grilled about his record extensively. Amazingly, Garland fired back with one major request:

More government power!

Yes, the same man who has already exploited government power to crack down on everyday Americans thinks the government does not have enough power.

Throughout his testimony, Merrick Garland frequently pushed for more “resources.” In one exchange with Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, Garland insisted Biden’s Department of Justice does not have “enough people. We don’t have enough money. We don’t have enough jails. We don’t have enough judges.”

Considering its track record, it’s unsettling to imagine what the Biden administration might do with more people, money, jails, and judges!

Garland also got into several particularly heated exchanges with Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Josh Hawley, both of whom probed him about cherry-picking cases that fit the president’s political agenda. They pointed out that the DOJ ignored many instances of violence against pro-life organizations, for example, yet “terrorized” pro-life Mark Houck for a “crime” that had already been dismissed by a lower court.

“If you’re a violent criminal and you attack a crisis pregnancy center, that is not a priority in the Biden Department of Justice,” Cruz concluded.

Not surprisingly, Garland made a habit of dodging their questions, refusing to provide straightforward answers.

Washington D.C. is on a mission to consolidate more and more power in this nation until all citizens are constantly threatened to be punished for their political beliefs. Regardless of which party is in office, at least half the country feels threatened by our bloated federal government. Such a polarizing climate is simply unsustainable.

Thankfully, we know the solution. The Founding Founders left us the resources needed to restore the federal government to its proper place should the need ever arise. No doubt, the time to employ what they gave us has arrived. To join us in using Article V of the Constitution to rein in the federal government and shrink Biden’s DOJ down to size, sign the petition below and get involved today.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
