Jenna Ellis: Convention of States is the only solution to stop the weaponization of government

Published in Blog on October 05, 2023 by Brianna Kraemer

Convention of States is so crucial because the Washington Uniparty establishment is never going to correct itself, Jenna Ellis proclaimed on COS Live this week. They will never stop the weaponization of government against conservatives who want to exercise the right to speech, association, and religion.

Ellis is one of 19 indicted in Georgia for challenging the 2020 election on behalf of her client, former President Donald Trump. Ellis said it's an attempt to criminalize the practice of law and cause a chilling effect on the legal profession.

"If you represent a client that is disfavored by the deep state, then they're going to target you. They're going to target your profession, your credibility, your livelihood, and your bar license," she explained, adding that she's received over 50 bar complaints to try to destroy her legal career.

It's not a badge of honor when government agents and institutions are targeting you specifically, she described. It's a sickening example of the unconstitutional weaponization of government that is degrading our freedom and liberty in America.

"All of these things may have been prevented had we had a Convention of States earlier. So what can we prevent in the future by calling a Convention of States now?"

Article V is the best way we can ignore Washington, D.C. When a Convention of States is called, no one in Congress will have any say or any power over what state legislators do in terms of proposing amendments. They will also play absolutely no role in ratifying amendments, meaning they are irrelevant to the process that will restrict them directly.

"I sincerely believe the only path forward is not through the next election, it's through a Convention of States so that we can have really solid amendments."

In particular, Ellis believes an Article V convention would help make improvements to the federal judiciary by ensuring we acquire good judges. She believes term limits in both the federal judiciary as well as in all areas of federal government – not just elected officials but also the federal bureaucracy – will truly help drain the swamp. At the core of the issue, states need to become sovereign again.

"As I've continued to grow in my knowledge and understanding and genuine love of the Constitution, I've also grown in my advocacy in support of Convention of States because it truly is the best and only solution."

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
