Is America safe anymore?

Published in Blog on September 06, 2024 by Jakob Fay

One of the most basic roles and responsibilities of the government is to keep its citizens safe. Precious little matters if Americans cannot trust that they are safe in their own homes and towns.

Unfortunately, between soft-on-crime “justice” standards, the current administration’s failed immigration policy, and a mental health crisis, this may no longer be the case.

Just this week, America suffered another devasting school shooting in Georgia. Two teachers and two students were killed. Nine others were injured.

School shootings have become (all too common) topics of debate in this country. But, at the most rudimentary level, they represent a painful reminder to parents that their kids may not be safe in their schools. According to the Washington Post, more than 382,000 students have experienced gun violence at school since Columbine in 1999. This is simply inexcusable, and it should disgust us all deeply. A nation that cannot protect its kids is not a safe nation.

Meanwhile, in Colorado, a Venezuelan gang took over multiple apartment complexes in Aurora, a suburb of Denver, last week. Camera footage showed gang members storming through an apartment while armed.

“We currently have entire complexes under gang control — complexes where staff have been beaten up, they’ve been threatened, their families have been threatened [and] complexes where there are no staff left on the property,” Aurora City Council Member Danielle Jurinsky told Fox News. “These complexes are being run by this Tren de Aragua gang.”

Remember that name? Earlier this year, another Tren de Aragua gang member, Jose Ibarra, shocked the nation when he murdered nursing student Laken Riley. Ilbarra, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2022, was arrested by the Border Patrol before being released back into the country. He was then arrested and released two more times before killing Riley on February 22, 2024.

That wasn’t the first time something like that happened. And I’m afraid it won’t be the last.

On Thursday, Fox News’s Bill Melugin reported that another illegal immigrant, Franklin Viera Guevara, who was deported under Trump before unlawfully re-entering the country on an unknown date (presumably under Biden), was arrested for chaining up two young boys inside his girlfriend’s home in Virginia. According to ICE, Guevara faces “two counts of child abuse/neglect: reckless disregard for life, two counts of child endangerment while in one’s custody, and two counts of child abduction: by force.”

“Another despicable crime committed by an illegal immigrant who is not supposed to be here,” blasted Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin. “Too many innocent Virginians have suffered under the open border policies of the Biden-Harris Administration. Local officials in Fairfax County must uphold their duty to cooperate with ICE and keep Virginians safe. Enough is enough.”

Americans, of course, have been saying Enough is Enough for several years now, but our cry for change has largely gone unheeded by the elites who run this country. For example, when gangs took over apartment buildings in his state, Colorado Governor Jared Polis (the same one who sang Taylor Swift lyrics at the DNC) dismissed the allegations as a “feature of… imagination.”

Well, perhaps they’re a feature of imagination (whatever that means) to him, but to the everyday men and women suffering under these crimes, they’re anything but. To the rest of us — those who don’t live in mansions with 24-7 private security — crime in America is very real and, increasingly, an area of concern.

America is the greatest country in the world. But, for as long as students are slaughtered in the classroom, gangs are allowed to control our residences, and illegal aliens terrorize our citizens, can we really say that we’re a safe country?

The elite ruling class in this country has let us down, endangered our kids, and made America a more dangerous place to live. It’s time to push back. With an Article V convention, “We the People” can take back control of our country, secure the border, and finally effect a common-sense crime policy that targets criminals over pro-life grandmas.

We need your help to make America safe again. To get involved, please consider signing the Convention of States petition below!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
