A Message from Mike Rilee, State Director - District 19
If it's summer, it's time to grow the grass roots here in Maryland!
The primary election season is a busy time for many in Maryland, and we are grateful to all of the volunteers and candidates who have taken up the responsibility to learn about the challenges our country faces and to be part of the solution. We're looking forward to even more activity over the coming year!
Now it is time to reach, teach, and activate more of our fellow Marylanders.
The Maryland Event Season
The start of the COS Action Maryland (COSA-MD) event season has been bumpy this year as we are still looking for Event Coordinators. These coordinators help us spot events and festivals where we can set up tables, and then they help organize volunteers to hand out literature and meet our neighbors to tell them about reclaiming self-governance in Maryland.
A new generation of COS Regional and District Captains are learning how organize and set up booths at events with the help of COSA-MD. We almost missed out on the Howard County Fair, which we've been to for many years now, but our most recently assigned Regional Captain Mary Jane Perraut picked up the reins and with the help of COS Action has secured us a spot at the Fair!
Volunteer at an Event!
Many fairs require booths to be staffed whenever the fair is open, that includes during workdays, so if you have time and would like to learn how to help educate and activate our neighbors about the Article V Convention of States, please contact us and volunteer to help at a COS fair or event booth near you. No experience is necessary, we'll pair you with an experienced COS volunteer to show you the ropes and I think you'll have fun.
We are preparing for events across the state, so the best way to find out how to get involved is to contact me or your District or Regional Captain for more information. Also, please let us know if you have an event or gathering where COS could meet patriots interested in learning more about how Article V can help address our country's problems. COSA-MD is expanding and we're looking for new venues to meet and form coalitions with groups aiming to rein in our runaway federal government.
Make a Difference, Organize Your District
Our State Grassroots Coordinator Leslie Jenkins and I were overwhelmed by the response for a call that went out for patriots to organize their neighbors as District Captains. We're grateful for all of the interest and have been discussing with applicants how we build relationships with our legislators and activate a team of their self-governing constituents to enact change using the powers granted by Article V.
Two District Captains have come on board in July and both from the Eastern Shore: Wayne Tindle and Heather Ford both from MD District 38. We're excited and happy for our first captains in that part of Maryland.
Get Involved!
If you're interested in learning more about how to help us build an engaged army of self-governing grassroots activists in Maryland, visit our Take Action page or the COS University for more information.
Now is the best time to learn more about our Constitution and the Article V Convention of states and then share that knowledge with our neighbors!
Reach out, volunteer, and join us at an event soon!
For Liberty!

Spotlight on Team Maryland: Meet Will Zwart, District Captain (District # 36)
My name is Will Zwart, and I live in Queen Anne's County, just outside Centreville. I'm used to small town life, but what I'm not used to is all the rain, having grown up in the rocky-mountain-high arid climate of Colorado. I was homeschooled my whole education there, and we moved out to Maryland just after I graduated in 2015.
I've always held an passion for two things: patriotism and story-telling. The latter manifested itself into my writing career, specifically screenwriting, when I started producing Lego stop-motion films, and eventually my own movie review series. My forté is epic fantasy, and hope my own fantastical worlds are half as good as J.R.R. Tolkien's. I hope to one day tell such tales to the masses that please God and display the wholesome, uplifting narratives that once dominated American culture.
My patriotism really found its voice during the somewhat controversial events of 2020, when the infiltration and corruptive influence of Communism in America became plainly evident to me. Since then, I have sought avenues of resistance to Mr. Marx's mania, and the greatest of these is, without a doubt, the Convention of States movement.
I always wondered why the Founders hadn't anticipated and made safeguards against an overblown, tyrannical federal government, so one can imagine my excitement to discover that they had in Article V, and the fight for self-governance was already well underway, a fight I eagerly joined. Since then, I have put my passions to work as a State Content Writer, and more recently as a District Captain.
Let it be known I don't know what I'm doing, but I do it with confidence! I also do it with the understanding that if I acknowledge God in all my ways, he shall make my paths straight, and with His guidance, even an introverted screenwriter from Colorado can do his part to save America!
