Gov. Gavin Newsom declares Article V convention a safe and secure way to amend the Constitution

Published in Blog Hottest Spread the Word on June 21, 2023 by COSA PA Comms Team

Huge Breaking News:

Governor Gavin Newsom, CA wants to propose a 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution to enact gun control measures.

“Our ability to make a more perfect union is literally written into the Constitution,” said Governor Gavin Newsom. “So today, I’m proposing the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution to do just that. The 28th Amendment will enshrine in the Constitution common sense gun safety measures that Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and gun owners overwhelmingly support – while leaving the 2nd Amendment unchanged and respecting America’s gun-owning tradition.”

And,

Passage of the 28th Amendment will require a convention to propose amendments to the United States Constitution, also known as an Article V Convention or amendatory convention. Working in partnership with members of the California State Senate and Assembly, California will be the first state in the nation to call for such a convention with a joint resolution being introduced by California State Senator Aisha Wahab and Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer. The Governor will work with grassroots supporters, elected and civic leaders, and broad and diverse coalitions across the nation to fight for the passage of similar resolutions in other state legislatures to ensure the convening of a constitutional convention limited to this subject. 33 other states, in addition to California, would need to take action to convene such a convention.”

Newsom's proposal is great news COSA!

The concept proclaimed by this announcement is complete and utter codswallop, but that doesn’t detract from the fact it is still great news for the Convention of States Action’s mission.

COSA stands for the written Constitution, especially the Second Amendment!

We oppose ALL attempts by the federal government to limit our God-given inalienable rights; our right to defend our person, property, and/or other people from attack is at the very top of the list.

Now the Great News!

For decades the left's narrative has been to claim there is no way to control the convention, claiming delegates can completely rewrite the Constitution and abolish the "Bill of Rights".

Newsom has publicly admitted the only way for this tommyrot of "common sense gun control", which is just a smoke screen to obfuscate the real purpose of disarming law-abiding citizens, to be legally enforced is to go through the amendment process. It is a colossal blow to the taradiddles the elitists have been spinning for years.

Up to now, they have advanced their assault on the Constitution through judicial fiat; never going to the expense and effort to legally change the law, instead, they get activist judges appointed through the election process to make their agenda "case law". Every time they try to get legislation passed it is rejected at the ballot box.

This ludicrous scheme puts to rest some other flawed theories the Chicken Littles have been spewing as well:

  • The convention can’t be limited in scope
  • Congress will control the convention
  • The subject of the call for the convention is irrelevant, and
  • The state legislatures can’t control their delegates.

Most importantly, it confirms the Convention of States Action’s primary mission - any substantial change will require the largest grassroots movement this country has ever seen to turn the ship of state back to individual freedom!

I soundly agree with the Governor; if the left wants to debilitate the 2nd Amendment, let them do so by the constitutionally approved method and pursue an Article V convention.

Let them try to get 34 state legislatures to call upon Congress to call a convention to propose amendments for gun control.

They will spend hundreds of millions of dollars. And it will fail.

It will take 17 state legislatures to do absolutely nothing to deny them the requisite number of states required to call the convention (34). The easiest thing any political body can do is nothing.

Right now, 26 state legislatures have approved "Constitutional Carry" legislation; in 19 states it is legal to openly carry a loaded firearm in the gallery of the state legislature and watch the proceedings.

Let’s hope they use maximum labor with this nonsensical effort; the time and money they waste will be good for the country.

After a sober view of the liberal agenda, it will be rejected as always, but the Article V process will be highlighted. With more progressives losing, more conservatives will win, and we can restore the proper checks and balances to our written Constitution that have been erased by judicial fiat.
