Do You Ever Feel Like Giving Up on Our Country?

Published in Blog on March 13, 2023 by John Cunningham

PATRIOTS! Let’s use the Constitution to save the Constitution!

Things are not going well. Landslide election rebalancing did not materialize, fire-bombing anarchists continue to go unpunished, government agencies and the media ignore or suppress important truths, reality is distorted in the name of diversity. Is this something new or just humanity in all its perennial frailty?

Our Founding Fathers saw us for what we really are, prone to self-preservation at the cost of others. Our leaders intended We the People, at the state level, to be at the top of the food chain. They knew from living under British rule and from observing history that all powerful central governments had failed to serve their people. That’s why they created checks and balances to make sure the power stayed in the states.

When the United States cut ties with Britain, the founders wanted nothing to do with the British form of government known as “unitary.” Under a unitary regime, all power originates from a centralized national government (Parliament) and is delegated to local governments. history.com

When our country started out, the states were at the top of the food chain.

Federalism refers to the separation of powers between the state and federal governments. Enumerated powers of the federal government listed in Article I were intended to be limited, and per the 10th Amendment, all other “powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

But, over the last 100 years, thanks to the Progressive Movement, Washington D.C. has slowly taken away local power and now the states are at the bottom of the food chain. The states are mere agencies to the federal government.

“What democracy meant for the Progressives is that the people would take power out of the hands of locally elected officials and political parties and place it instead into the hands of the central government, which would in turn establish administrative agencies run by neutral experts, scientifically trained, to translate the people's inchoate will into concrete policies.”  Heritage.org

This sounds bad, but don’t give up hope. The great news is that Convention of States is using Article V of the US Constitution to restore power to We the People through our state legislatures.

We have earned the nickname The Free State of Florida and we are being watched by the whole country. So, let’s show our fellow citizens that Florida is the leader in restoring power to the states.

Come to Tallahassee on April 4th, 2023 8am - 4 pm to show the country that our state and our People are working hard to restore the States to the top of the food chain!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
