DeSantis: Biden’s “unscientific” mandates barring tennis star from entering Florida tournament

Published in Blog on March 10, 2023 by Brianna Kraemer

"Put pandemic politics aside and give the American people what they want."

That’s the message Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent to President Biden this week after Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic was denied entrance to the U.S. for the Miami Open tennis tournament because he opted out of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The world-class athlete was forced to withdraw from a California tournament currently taking place after the Department of Homeland Security denied his vaccine exemption request. This means he currently cannot play in the Miami tournament that starts in just a few weeks.

The pandemic emergency declaration still in effect allows Biden to deny entrance to unvaccinated foreigners. The emergency status is set to end on May 11, just over a month after the tournament ends.

"This denial is unfair, unscientific, and unacceptable... Let him play,” DeSantis, a supporter of the Convention of States movement, wrote in a letter. He added that the rules are misguided and out-of-date.

Florida Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio both voiced support for the Serbian tennis player as well, calling on Congress to take action to eliminate President Biden’s "bogus vaccine mandate."

But could he enter by boat? That’s a solution DeSantis proposed.

The CDC guidelines require all non-citizens or non-U.S. immigrants to be fully vaccinated before boarding a flight to the U.S. But that doesn’t say boats.

The option should be valid, as the southern border welcomes thousands of undocumented immigrants every day. The administration allowed over 2 million undocumented immigrants to flood through the southern border in fiscal year 2022, with not the slightest concern for vaccination status.

Just this week, the government awarded a biological man with a women's courage award, implying that facts are subjective and based on personal emotion.

Government hypocrisy at its finest.

We are told we are free people living in the freest country in the world. But our county won’t allow foreign travelers to legally enter the country with a passport if they didn’t submit to government health mandates.

This is exactly why we need to call a Convention of States.

As put by Gov. DeSantis, "We have to go around Congress to impose term limits and a balanced budget amendment."

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
