COS wraps up HISTORIC day with hearing in Rhode Island, MAJOR announcement

Published in Blog on February 06, 2024 by Article V Patriot

Three states in one day — February 6, 2024, is one for the books.

With crucial legislative hearings in Iowa, Ohio, and Rhode Island, within mere hours of each other, Convention of States once again proved its tireless grassroots commitment to advancing the Article V resolution.

“The grassroots are spectacular,” praised Mark Meckler after over three hours of volunteer testimony in the Ohio Government Oversight Committee. “I can’t overstate this…. Everybody on the team did an incredible job.”

Following the hearings in Iowa and Ohio, the Rhode Island team brought the day's proceedings to a close with impactful supporter testimony in the House Committee on State Government and Elections. Their efforts were preceded by a massive outreach campaign, which included hundreds of calls to alert team members throughout the state about the upcoming meeting.

“[Convention of States] has cut across all political labels, and is a purely American response to some serious problems at hand,” echoed one enthusiastic New England supporter.

In an additional groundbreaking development, COS announced a second Iowa House Committee hearing on Article V scheduled for February 7 at 10:00 a.m. ET, marking the fourth such hearing within a little over 24 hours. A successful vote in this committee would propel our application to the full Iowa House of Representatives for debate — a major stride toward final passage.

Stay tuned for live coverage of this historic occasion across our various social media platforms tomorrow, and keep an eye on the Convention of States blog for further updates!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
