President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance "are thinking about" Convention of States.
So says Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts, who was featured during an event hosted by the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF), which endorses COS, on November 19.
During the Q&A portion of the discussion about the experiences that Roberts has had in championing conservative ideas and policies in Washington, he mentioned the Heritage Foundation's support for COS when pointing out long-term objectives for bringing the republic back to the principles of limited government, and the necessity of redoubling efforts to call an Article V convention regardless of the results of the election.
"We just need to keep as a tool in our toolbox some equally radical ideas that are very sound and legitimate like the convention of states," Roberts said to applause.
"Just because Trump and Vance won doesn't mean that we should give up on that project," he added.
Roberts reminded the audience that Heritage supports COS "because we realize the objective isn't short-term, it's long-term, and I know that President Trump and Vice President Vance are thinking about that."
Indeed, as the excitement continues about the number of COS endorsers and supporters who have been appointed to significant positions in the incoming Trump administration, it is still the grassroots in the states who must effect the structural change necessary to reduce the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government through a limited-purpose Article V convention.
