In addition to Vice President-elect JD Vance, President-elect Donald Trump is turning to several more prominent endorsers and supporters of Convention of States to fill significant roles in his forthcoming administration.
On November 12, U.S. Army veteran, bestselling author, Fox News personality, and COS endorser Pete Hegseth was announced as Trump's nominee for Secretary of Defense.
"The leviathan of today's federal government continues to grow unabated, pushing the people further away from our Founders' vision of self-governance," Hegseth stated when endorsing COS.
"The Convention of States Project is the only constitutional pathway for citizens to save our Republic by restoring it to her citizens," he continued. "Article V of our Constitution underscores the duty of active citizenship and I am proud to stand with millions of volunteers in this effort."
Hegseth, who is but the latest Article V champion to be called to serve in Trump's administration, addressed the Convention of States Leadership Summit in 2019:
Another COS endorser -- U.S. senator Marco Rubio -- has reportedly been asked to serve as Secretary of State. Rubio also emphasized the importance of citizen engagement when announcing his support for COS by saying "I put my trust in the people, not Washington, in the critical effort to restore constitutional, limited government. The Convention of States Project is a genuine grassroots movement to achieve that goal, and one that I am proud to be a part of."
Along with Elon Musk, fellow entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has been asked by the President-elect to lead a new Department of Government Efficiency. Ramaswamy has enthusiastically endorsed the Article V movement, as evidenced in the following clip from a conversation he had with COSA co-founder and senior advisor Michael Farris:
Also, COS endorser and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is Trump's selection to become United States ambassador to Israel.
“The Framers gave us a structure to allow the states to unilaterally impose proper controls on the federal government when it overruns the boundaries they had established," said Huckabee upon endorsing the movement.
"Article V allows for a convention...for this very purpose. The states can meet in official session to draft amendments to the Constitution that require fiscal restraint and other limitations on federal power."
Update: Former U.S. representative, 2020 Democratic Party presidential candidate, and U.S. Army Reserve officer Tulsi Gabbard has been nominated by the President-elect to serve as Director of National Intelligence. Her father, Hawaii state senator Mike Gabbard, has supported COS in the Hawaii legislature.
Former candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from New Hampshire, Trump 2024 campaign spokeswoman, and COS supporter Karoline Leavitt will be the new White House Press Secretary in January.
COS supporter Brooke Rollins has been nominated by President-elect Trump to become Secretary of Agriculture. Rollins served in the first Trump administration as director of the Office of Innovation and acting director of the Domestic Policy Council.
In 2016, while in her role as president and chief executive officer of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, Rollins said of the movement to call an Article V convention to reduce the size and scope of the federal government:
“The American people are mad and they’re looking for a way to say, ‘No more.’ Our founders, in their brilliance, gave us a tool to do that. And it’s Article V.”
Congressman Dan Bishop of North Carolina has been appointed to become deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget. Bishop voted in favor of the COS resolution in 2017 while a member of the North Carolina Senate.
