Presidential candidate endorses Convention of States, challenges other candidates to do the same

Published in Blog on February 23, 2023 by Jakob Fay

Days after entrepreneur and anti-woke crusader Vivek Ramaswamy announced his 2024 bid for the presidency, he met up by chance with Convention of States co-founder Michael Farris. The two discussed the growing push to use Article V of the Constitution to rein in the federal government, and Vivek voiced his total support.

“This is within the Constitution for a reason,” he said of Convention of States, “so I’ll be very clear about my view on this.”

He affirmed that a Convention would be safe – dismissing the misinformed fears of the anti-Convention of States crowd – and that it would spawn a healthy national conversation regarding “the first principles about what it actually means to be American and the Constitution.”

“The framers of the Constitution, they had a great forethought for periods just like this one,” he noted. “So I think just getting that convention together, calling it alone will have a useful function for the country.”

Stating that Convention of States will be a “pretty high-level” issue for him, Vivek also challenged other 2024 candidates to show their support as well.

The former biotech executive has recently garnered attention within conservative circles for his campaigning against woke business practices. Vivek is the author of two books, “Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America's Social Justice” and “Nation of Victims: Identity Politics, the Death of Merit, and the Path Back to Excellence.” He has also collaborated with Ben Shapiro and lectured at Hillsdale College.

Vivek recently opined that it is time to shut down “most” three-letter government agencies, including the Department of Education. “When rot runs so deep… you can’t reform it by putting a different figurehead at the top. You have to shut it down and build something to take its place.”

He also maintained that we need to limit the amount of time politicians spend in office.

Both of these proposals fall right in line with the Convention of States’ mission to rein in the federal government using Article V of the Constitution. Specifically, we are passing resolutions calling for a Convention to impose term limits, fiscal restraints, and other power-limiting restrictions on Washington D.C.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
