10 quotes that PROVE Elon Musk should support COS

Published in Blog on November 14, 2024 by Jakob Fay

Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and Tesla and owner of X, is coming in hot, blasting what he calls a “suffocating, massive federal bureaucracy” as he prepares to take the helm at the newly announced Department of Government Efficiency.

Over the past few weeks, Musk’s rhetoric has increasingly aligned with Convention of States’ (COS) core mission of calling an Article V convention to rein in federal spending, power, and career politicians. Although (to the best of our knowledge) Musk has never directly addressed Convention of States, the world-renown businessman and entrepreneur will serve alongside many of our most passionate supporters, including Pete Hegseth, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, Vice President-elect JD Vance, and Vivek Ramaswamy. These recent quotes from Musk prove it’s about time he joined the club!

1. “Who’s defining hate speech? Who’s defining misinformation? The government. Do you really trust the government to make that definition? The whole point of the First Amendment is do not trust the government.”

The Founding Fathers were distrustful men — distrustful, that is, of consolidated government power. One of the most wary, George Mason, literally inspired the creation of the Article V convention process because he feared the federal government might one day become tyrannical. Those who, like Mr. Musk, share in Mason’s cynicism about the government, will find a home in the Article V movement.

2. “We’ve got this suffocating, massive federal bureaucracy, and the government spending is bankrupting the country. Our interest payments on the national debt now exceed the Defense Department budget.”

3. “If we don’t do something [about government spending], America is toast.”

That’s one way to put it! Feckless government spending is not only driving America into the ground; it’s driving thousands of Americans to the only constitutional solution as big as the problem: Article V. Will Musk be the next to endorse the Founders’ plan as the permanent remedy to out-of-control government waste?

4. “The problem is if someone has like a 25-, 30-year career of being institutionalized, you’re essentially like a part of the government system. You’ve sort of programmed your life and your career to be a part of this bureaucratic system.”

Term limits, anyone??

5. “The larger government gets, the less individual freedom you have. I think that's really the core thing. Your freedoms have just been eroded year after year with more and more government, laws and regulations, and regulatory authorities.”

6. “Overregulation is a giant problem.”

Amen. Preach, brother.

7. “Think of regulators like referees on a field, a sports field. You don’t want to have no refs. You want to have some number of refs. But you don’t want to have way more refs than players. You don’t want to be like, ‘Well, the running back couldn’t complete the pass because there were too many regulators in the way because the football field is full of regulators. Like, you can’t even play the game. That’s the issue we’ve got right now.”

8. “I just think we’ve got far too many government agencies. The federal bureaucracy has gotten out of hand, and we just need to pare it down to a sensible level.”

9. “The people voted for major government reform.”

No doubt, that’s true. There’s just one catch: the people have been voting for reform for decades. The question is not whether the people want reform; the question is whether Washington, D.C., can deliver reform that lasts longer than four years. If not, Musk may want to consider, as the Founders recommended, an outside source for reform (wink wink cough cough COS).

10. “The obstacles are overcoming the Kafkaesque nature of the rules governing this vast bureaucracy and ensuring that maniacally dedicated small-government revolutionaries join this administration!”

“No one talks about small government anymore,” they say. “Small government idealism is outdated, irrelevant, and impractical.” But Elon Musk would beg to differ.

Between launching rockets into space and building Cybertrucks, Musk envisions a revival of American ingenuity — one that could flourish if only Washington were constrained and returned to its rightful limits.

Perhaps that day is coming sooner than we realize. But be forewarned: the powers that be will resist. The fight to restore limited government and self-governance won’t be pretty. We’ll need all the help we can get.

That’s where Convention of States comes into play. With millions of dedicated supporters and the weight of the Founders’ constitutional genius behind them, Convention of States is already well underway to dismantling federal overreach and power. We invite anyone who shares these goals — including Elon Musk! — to join the movement!

Article V has been waiting unused for 235 years; it’s time we finally took the Founders’ advice. Sign the COS petition below to get started!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
