Wyoming Senate passes COS resolution!

Published in Blog on January 28, 2025 by Jakob Fay

The Wyoming Senate passed the COS resolution, Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 1, on Tuesday, voting 22-7 in favor of the call for an Article V convention on the bill’s third reading. This victory follows last week’s successful vote in the Wyoming Senate Judiciary Committee.

The resolution will now advance to the House for final passage.

Although lawmakers typically debate bills during the final reading, SJR 1 passed through the “consent list” — a list of bills that legislators have agreed not to debate further — due to overwhelming support.

“Our bill sailed through without objection, without debate,” said Senior Vice President for Legislative Affairs Rita Peters.

“This is a resounding victory,” she added. “Such a strong vote!”

Convention of States President Mark Meckler praised the Wyoming team for its hard work on the ground, which made this momentous achievement possible.

"When you start to have victories, people look at you from outside and say, 'Wow, this is all happening so fast,' but the reality is, it's been a lot of work, over a long period of time, by a lot of people," he said.

The Equality State now enters the running for the 20th state to fully adopt the COS resolution, competing with South Dakota, whose Senate also passed the application last week. Stay tuned to the Convention of States blog for future breaking updates.
