One of the driving principles behind the Convention of States Project is that power should reside as close to home as possible. That's because We the People have a much greater voice at the local and state levels than at the federal level. While federal elections might garner more attention, grassroots Americans can enact real, beneficial change in their communities and states.
The latest example comes from California, where Governor Gavin Newsom is in serious trouble. As Mark Meckler explained on a recent Battlecry episode, Newsom is facing a recall effort that has gained momentum in recent weeks as California residents struggle under tyrannical top-down COVID-19 lockdowns.
Organizers say they have 800,000 of the necessary 1.5 million signatures to recall Newsom, and the effort just benefited from a six-figure donation.
This is why we want to shift the balance of power from the federal to the state governments. Generally speaking, average Americans have very little influence on what happens in Washington, but they can impact their state and local governments.
Fortunately, the Founders gave We the People a way to work through their state governments to limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government -- an Article V Convention of States.
A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can limit federal power and return much of that power to the states and the people. If you're frustrated that the federal government has so much control over things like education, healthcare, the environment, energy, and business, a Convention of States is the only way to put those issues firmly back in state control.
