WATCH: New endorsement + Tim Pool for COS

Published in Blog on March 17, 2024 by Article V Patriot

Convention of States grassroots supporters are turning out in droves to champion Article V as COS takes state legislatures across America by storm. To stay in the know about our relentless legislative efforts and advocacy, tune in weekly to COS NOW, a video recap highlighting the most significant COS-related news of the week. Alternatively, catch up on these updates right here on the COS blog.

1. Congressman endorses COS, slams 'bloated' federal government

U.S. Representative Russell Fry from South Carolina has officially endorsed Convention of States after previously assisting the grassroots movement during his tenure as a state legislator.

“I write today to express my full support for the Convention of States project,” the congressman stated.

2. Tim Pool debates guest about COS

“Congress is not going to do this,” blazoned popular podcaster Tim Pool on a recent episode of Timcast IRL, in which he described how an Article V convention could be used to fix Congress. “The states would have to force Congress….”

3. Sen. Santorum advocates for COS at town hall and in op-ed

Convention of States Senior Advisor Rick Santorum and Montana State Senator Tom McGillvray sounded the alarm at an event in Montana about why the country needs to call an Article V convention to address its federal debt. In a must-read op-ed, Sen. Santorum walked readers through the history behind the convention and how it would work.

“Washington, DC, will never voluntarily relinquish its own power, no matter who is elected,” he wrote. “The only rational conclusion is this: unless some political force outside of Washington, DC, intervenes, the federal government will continue to bankrupt this nation, usurp the legitimate authority of the states, and destroy the liberty of the people.”

4. The legislative week ahead

Two and a half months deep into 2024, the momentum of grassroots efforts in support of COS still shows no signs of waning. In Louisiana, the grassroots team left an indelible mark on the state capital where legislators signed their petition. Also, the Maryland team released a compelling video documenting their advocacy for COS at the statehouse in Annapolis.

5. Step aside, Academy Awards. Introducing The Wingies.

Fortunately, for those of us who couldn’t stomach a fourth Jimmy Kimmel-hosted Oscars (and especially for those of us who couldn’t stomach the first one, either), there’s a new award show on the block.

Enter The Wingies.

Watch this parody award show — featuring Mark Meckler, Rita Peters, and a special guest — here.

All this and more is highlighted on the most recent episode of COS NOW, available below. Ensure you don't miss a single moment of the action by staying tuned to COS NOW!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
