3. Sen. Santorum advocates for COS at town hall and in op-ed
Convention of States Senior Advisor Rick Santorum and Montana State Senator Tom McGillvray sounded the alarm at an event in Montana about why the country needs to call an Article V convention to address its federal debt. In a must-read op-ed, Sen. Santorum walked readers through the history behind the convention and how it would work.
“Washington, DC, will never voluntarily relinquish its own power, no matter who is elected,” he wrote. “The only rational conclusion is this: unless some political force outside of Washington, DC, intervenes, the federal government will continue to bankrupt this nation, usurp the legitimate authority of the states, and destroy the liberty of the people.”
4. The legislative week ahead
Two and a half months deep into 2024, the momentum of grassroots efforts in support of COS still shows no signs of waning. In Louisiana, the grassroots team left an indelible mark on the state capital where legislators signed their petition. Also, the Maryland team released a compelling video documenting their advocacy for COS at the statehouse in Annapolis.
