WATCH: COS Action Maryland Grassroots Volunteers Testify in the Senate

Published in Blog on March 28, 2023 by Maria Moungelis Bedard

On March 3rd and March 14th, 18 Marylanders testified in the House of Delegates and the Senate respectively in support of an Article V Convention of States. You can watch their compelling testimonies by selecting the links with their names below.

Nancy Dall has been a volunteer with Convention of States Action Maryland since 2021. Nancy hails from Arnold, Maryland in District 33.

It would be naive to believe that we can preserve our freedoms and our inalienable rights if we do not take action. You, right now, have the opportunity to use the Constitution to save the Constitution.

Holding a Convention of States is a Constitutional right, not some concocted notion. If there is any fear or hesitation, it should be outweighed by what we have to lose. Please vote in favor of this resolution so it can pass to the floor for debate and I stress the importance is debate.

Cantor Yehoshua (Elwin) Redfern honored us with his testimony. He's been a volunteer since 2017. Cantor Redfern is from District 19 in Montgomery County.

I have lived in Maryland for 32 years and a second generation American. I'm a professional cantor and have been a prayer leader in tradition Jewish synagogues in Annapolis, Baltimore and Delaware.

We just want the resolution discussed and debated for the first time in the Senate during this year's legislative session.

President Abraham Lincoln said, "Government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth." I'm not sure that our federal government wants us anymore. The federal government is taking away your power as a state government and this is alarming to me.

Cesare Vodopia joined Convention of States Action Maryland in 2018 and lives in Howard County.

Our country will turn 247 years old this year...this is still a young country. It is an experiment in self governance. Because of the growing size and depth of the federal government I fear we may be in the late stages of an unsuccessful experiment in self governance, rather than the early stages of a successful one.

Our Founders gave us Article V...because they knew there would come a time when the people would need to constrain the federal government.

The threats we face because of our runaway federal government apply equally to all, whether they lean left or to the right. This deserves debate and serious consideration.

We are grateful to all three of our volunteers who offered bold testimony to members of the Senate Committee. They stressed the importance of voting the resolution of Committee for a full debate on the Senate floor. The legislative session is ending soon - we are hopeful our resolution will be voted on this session so that it can be debated in the full House and Senate.

We are now more than halfway to our goal to convene a Convention of States! 19 of the needed 34 states have passed the resolution, and we're making progress in the remaining states, including Maryland. Our national goal is to reach 24 states by 2024 and the required 34 by 2026. Momentum is on our side! To learn more about getting involved, click the image below.
