We live in a new reality.
The Vice President-elect of the United States is a supporter of Convention of States.
That's right. U.S. senator, bestselling author, Marine Corps veteran, and Vice President-elect JD Vance supports the movement to call an Article V convention to limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government.
As Vance said during his brief remarks at the Trump campaign headquarters victory celebration in West Palm Beach, Florida, in the early morning hours of November 6:
"Under President Trump's leadership, we're never gonna stop fighting for you -- for your dreams, for the future of your children. And after the greatest political comeback in American history, we're gonna lead the greatest economic comeback in American history..."
Vance's message aligns with the core values of the movement to call an Article V convention to discuss and propose amendments that will curb federal power and rein in the federal government's runaway spending and regulation.
While it's inspiring and gratifying to know that a supporter of Convention of States will be Vice President in January, we know well that it is the states that must call the convention. Vice President-elect Vance can motivate, but we must get it done ourselves. Nineteen of the necessary 34 states needed to call a convention have passed the COS resolution. Our work continues.
As COSA president and co-founder Mark Meckler says, "We the People need to do our part. And that means fighting even harder for a convention of the states to ensure that meaningful reforms are permanent, and can’t just be changed by the next administration."
An Article V convention will go far in cementing the significant reforms and policies that the next administration is promising to advance in order that another administration cannot undo them with strokes of a pen.
Indeed, Meckler adds, "If we want permanent, structural change we need a convention of the states."
