U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn endorses COS

Published in Blog on April 21, 2025 by Matt May

The refrain in the "Iowa Corn Song" stresses that the Hawkeye State "is where the tall corn grows."

One of Iowa's sons is certainly standing tall in the defense of liberty and activating Article V of the Constitution to halt the growth and overreach of the federal government for good.

Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa's third congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, has officially endorsed Convention of States.

“As a proud Iowan and firm believer in the Constitution, I support the Convention of States to restore balance between Washington and the states," Nunn said in a statement.

"This is a step in the right direction to return power to the people, limit federal overreach, and make D.C. a little more like Iowa -- fiscally responsible, accountable, and grounded in common sense.”

Convention of States Action co-founder and president Mark Meckler expressed his appreciation for Nunn's endorsement.

"We’re thankful that Iowa Rep. Zach Nunn has endorsed Convention of States and is willing to step out and lead," said Meckler. "Iowans overwhelmingly support the call for convention and with Rep. Nunn along, it’s time for the state legislature to act."

Nunn has long been a supporter of the movement to call a limited-purpose Article V convention to reduce the size and scope of the federal government. While a member of the Iowa House of Representatives, he took to the floor in 2017 and said the following to his colleagues:

“The states need to convene a convention to propose amendments or, to put it in state legislative terms, a committee, an opportunity to have a conversation about what types of things should be in our U.S. Constitution, especially regarding financial overspending. I urge states to call for an Article V convention to hold the federal government accountable, to permanently rein in the trillions of dollars in deficit spending that has happened in both Republican and Democratic administrations, and make them accountable in the same ways that citizens are accountable to their own budget.”

Check out Nunn in action:

Nunn is currently in his second term as the representative from Iowa’s third congressional district and also held office in the Iowa House of Representatives and the Senate. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an airborne intelligence officer and is currently a colonel in the Air Force Reserve.

Given his unique experience and perspective as a state and federal legislator, Rep. Nunn's strong endorsement should serve as a clarion call to use the gift of Article V that the Founders gave to us.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
