In former President Trump's presidential campaign announcement on Tuesday night, he promoted a fundamental goal of Convention of States Action – term limits on federal officials.
"To further drain the Swamp, I will push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress – it's time," Trump said during his speech.
Convention of States Action has been leading the efforts to impose term limits on not just members of Congress but more widely federal officials, which could include congressional staffers and agency staffers.
It's clear that politicians will never put term limits on themselves. As Senator Mitch McConnell once said, "We have term limits... They’re called elections."

Using Article V of the Constitution, the states can be a beacon of light against the corruption of Washington. We can call for a Convention of States to propose amendments to the Constitution on the basis of three topics:
- Term limits on federal officials
- A balanced budget
- Overall limits to the size and jurisdiction of the federal government
"We will dismantle the Deep State and restore government by the people," he said.
COS is hard at work with millions of supporters, thousands of active volunteers stationed across the nation, and a growing number of COS-passed states – 19 out of 34 required states have officially called for a convention.
"America's comeback starts right now," Trump asserted. "So from now until Election Day in 2024 ... I will fight like no one who has ever fought before."
