‘This is about our children’; Parents STAND UP to fight porn in schools

Published in Blog on November 15, 2022 by Jakob Fay

Outraged parents in Dearborn, Michigan, spoke up at a school board meeting in October and on Monday threatened to sue the school for allegedly including pornographic books in its library.

Last month, Christian and Muslim parents came together to protest sexually explicit content in the Dearborn public schools. Much of the objectionable content happened to be contained in homosexual and transexual books, resulting in LGBTQ activist groups accusing the parents of trying to “erase” LGBTQ identities.

Following the contentious meeting, the school began an internal book review and ultimately agreed to remove a few of the explicit books but keep others. The books they kept on the shelf included graphic sexual depictions and referenced sensitive topics such as rape. Parents, incensed at the school’s refusal to remove all sexually explicit content, hit back with a lawsuit.

“As you are well aware, these parents have expressed to you great concerns regarding books depicting/describing pornography, pedophilia, and/or other sexually explicit content in your school library. They are also concerned over your sexual education policy, enhanced by your own denial of their right to ‘opt-out’ of your district’s sexual education program, in direct violation of Michigan law” the lawsuit states.

“You can’t get any more explicit than seeing a woman naked with boobs and a crotch,” one Dearborn resident argued. “What is it going to take? What is your definition of explicit? I’m willing to be on a committee to help and we’ll have other parents because it should be a parent-driven committee, not staff. We pay you and you’re not listening to us.”

The media has repeatedly referred to these parents as “book banners,” however, it is reasonable that parents would object to their children being exposed to pornographic content–especially when it is being taught behind the parent’s backs.

“I’m a Christian. These are Muslims. They’re Methodist. I don’t care what religion they are,” one parent said of the crowd that gathered to protest in October. “We’re all here together — as one community. This is about our children. This has to do with children, all children, I don’t care if they’re black, blue, polka dot, or whatever. You’re failing miserably at protecting our children. And we have to fix this. We as a community are going to do something about it because we have the power of the people.”

Across America, parents are waking up to just how important it is to stand up and fight for their children’s education. This is arguably the most important responsibility of a self-governing people.

Unfortunately, the federal government keeps pumping radical indoctrination into our schools and has even tried cracking down on parents who object. This is why, now more than ever, we need to rein in Washington, D.C.

Here at Convention of States Action, we are fighting daily to put the federal government back into its constitutionally-limited box using the tools the Founders left for us. To join our grassroots army, sign the Convention of States petition below!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
