10 reasons to sign the line

Published in Blog on October 18, 2023 by Article V Patriot

Throughout October, we encourage every Convention of States advocate to rally support by securing 10 petition signatures. And we're not stopping there – the Power of 10 theme endures as we encourage each signatory to extend their efforts by gathering an additional 10 petition signatures from their personal network.

For those unfamiliar with COS, it's natural to wonder if signing the COS petition has any real impact.

The unequivocal answer is YES! Here are 10 compelling reasons why signing the line is crucial:

1. Informing State Legislators: It serves as a way to communicate your support for Convention of States to your legislators. We send every petition directly to your state representatives so they are fully aware of their constituents' support for COS!

2. Building a Broad Grassroots: COS brings together individuals from mixed political backgrounds who share the common goal of limiting federal power.

3. Civic Engagement: It allows individuals to engage in the political process and express dissatisfaction with the status quo.

4. Preventing Tyranny: The Founders were concerned about the potential for tyranny in a centralized government. The federal government's size and intrusiveness have grown too excessive.

5. Protecting Future Liberties: Concerns about eroding individual rights and freedoms, including the First and Second Amendments, motivate support for the Convention of States movement.

6. Empowering Local Governance: The Founders believed that local governments, closer to the people, were better suited to address the specific needs and concerns of their communities. They intended for state governments to handle many domestic issues and public policies, which can be tailored to residents' unique needs and preferences.

7. Promoting Federalism: The Founding Fathers aimed to strike a balance between a strong central government that could unite the states and a recognition of the importance of state sovereignty. The federal government has overstepped its constitutional boundaries, overpowering the states.

8. Reducing the Bureaucracy: The government bureaucracy is made up of unelected officials running the show behind the scenes.

9. Balancing the Budget: Many are alarmed by the $33 trillion national debt and continuing fiscal irresponsibility. A convention could demand fiscal responsibility in Washington, including a balanced budget amendment.

10. Curbing Executive Overreach: Concerns about executive orders and presidential actions can drive support for a Convention of States as a means to limit or clarify executive authority.

By signing the Convention of States petition, you actively participate in shaping the future of your government and Constitution. Your signature becomes a powerful statement of your commitment to protecting individual rights, limiting government overreach, and fostering a more efficient and responsive government. Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
