In the latest federal government spending spree, the Biden administration will provide free high-speed internet to as many as 48 million eligible low-income families across the country, while the economy heads into turmoil thanks to the massive spending packages passed in recent years.
20 internet providers have agreed to provide discounted service rates to low-income individuals as part of a program that could make the service free to millions of households through an already established federal subsidy.
The money will come from the highly-debated infrastructure package that passed Congress last year. Households qualify for the program if their income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, or if a member of the family participates in one of a number of federal assistance programs.
This essentially encourages low-income families to continue making minimal income in order to stay on federal assistance programs.
Once families are on federal programs that offer free groceries through food stamps and internet through the most recent program, does the government think they will ever decide to willingly exit the “free” programs?
Of course not. But what this will do is keep low-income groups in the hands of Democrats that are starving for any support they can get leading into midterm elections.
Progressives love when the people rely on government programs because it allows them to have a large influence and stronger grasp over the lives of Americans.
When families rely solely on their own income for living expenses and move away from the city to become more independent, the power of politicians decreases and the freedom of the individual grows.
To get back to self-governance, we can use Article V of the Constitution to call a Convention of States.
Convention of States Action seeks to limit the federal government’s overall control by giving power back to the people. We can stop the out-of-control spending, implement term limits and stop politicians from thriving off their never-ending power grabs.
