Self-Governance – what it is and what it is not

Published in Blog on September 08, 2022 by Joyce A. Berry

When we talk about self-governance, what exactly is it that we are saying? Some might say, 'it's the way of the Wild West!'

Webster's Dictionary offers this definition,

a: having control or rule over oneself – specifically: having self: government: autonomous; b. undertaken or carried on without outside control: Self Contained.

The National Museum of American History says We the People are the first three words of self-governance.

By being self-governing, we are responsible for working toward a system that allows the decision to be made at the lowest level wherever and whenever possible.  For the safety of ourselves and others, we wouldn't go into the world doing whatever we may feel with no consideration for our fellow man and citizenry.

We understand our moral and ethical responsibility to others, considering the impact our decisions have on them. Our sense of responsibility is our compass which guides our decisions through thoughtful prayer, research and decision making.

As an army of self-governing individuals with Convention of States Action Florida (COSA FL), are there going to be decisions made that we may not be in total agreement with?  Of course there will!

It is important to remember which hat we have on. As an organization that operates under a non-profit classification by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), there are rules that must be adhered to. To do otherwise would place the mission of the organization at risk.

An organization typically consists of a dynamic group of individuals and at COSA FL, there could be conflicts of interest should everyone do 'their own thing'. Volunteers should regularly communicate with their District and Regional Captains to stay abreast of current COSA news and the various objectives their State has.

Therefore, as self-governing individuals collectively and individually, there are ways to make our voices heard appropriately. It is a priority to use the various venues to spread our message in a lawful manner that does not risk an agency backlash.

To be self-governing individuals, as were our forefathers, we stand prepared to face the consequences of our decision to act; to bring forth a government that is designed on these very principles knowing our Nation has strayed far from the path laid out. Restoration has it's risk, requires effort, and will bring untold reward for each citizen, young and old, within the borders of this great country.

One of our jobs at Convention of States and Citizens for Self-Governance is to spread that message of hope, promise and the vision of the country as it should be!! Today's Floridians enjoy many freedoms that others simply don't. COSA-FL is constantly seeking ways to better educate its residents about COS and the US Constitution.

Are you ready to be a truly self-governing individual? If so, stand up today and reach out to those who don’t understand it quite as well as you!  There are many!
