SCOTUS Overturning Roe v. Wade: The Big Picture

Published in Blog on June 29, 2022 by Gabriel Fontana

In watching the mainstream media’s coverage Friday of the Supreme Court decision, you would think pro-abortion advocates lost a significant battle while anti-abortion advocates won a momentous victory.

Since abortion is still legal in America, I don’t see this as a huge win for pro-life advocates or a huge loss for abortion proponents.

Abortion is still legal in many states. Florida law allows abortions up to 15 weeks. If abortion in Florida is to become outlawed completely, or become legal past the first 15 weeks, or remain unchanged; that would be entirely up to the voters of Florida.

In this decision the Supreme Court defers to  states' sovereignty and the will of the people, as more constitutional than a decree or a federal edict from the U.S. Government.

I see the reversal of an unconstitutional decision as a great win for America. In this citizen's opinion, it is a great first step to bringing us back to the United” States of America. You can’t have a united country when the federal government imposes laws that 50% of the people disagree with.

Over the past 50 years, the needle hasn’t moved much in either direction. Roe v. Wade was an incredible overreach where our Supreme Court legislated from the bench. Laws are supposed to be passed by Congress, not the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court’s ruling Friday was an immense victory for our Constitution and our Republic. It doesn’t matter which side of the abortion debate you favor; you have the choice to move to a state of like-minded people if your state does not match your beliefs.

It works for companies the same as individuals. If a company chooses to pay for its employees to travel to a state favoring abortions, that’s their prerogative in the same way a company chooses to move to a state that has strong law and order. This is what makes America work. Freedom to live by our choices under the laws of the state that matches our beliefs.

This is why the Convention of States Resolution provided for in Article V of the Constitution is so important. It is the key to our returning to the United States of America by limiting the power of the federal government. In order for us to return power to the states, we need to change how America works. If it was working, we wouldn’t be so divided as a country.

Let’s return power to the states by supporting the Convention of States Resolution:

  1. Imposing fiscal restraints on the federal government
  2. Limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government
  3. Limiting terms on Congress and federal officials

If you haven’t already done so, please sign the Convention of States petition for Florida or whichever state you call home.
