Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced a resolution on Monday that would force Biden and the Department of Defense to reveal information on America's military presence in Ukraine.
Because Congress is the only government entity capable of declaring war, the executive branch appears to have bypassed Congress to become far more involved in the war than American citizens know. The president has overextended his authority by placing U.S. troops on the ground in Ukraine to fight a foreign war.
The news broke last week when a young Air National Guardsmen illegally leaked the classified intel. It's still unclear why the 21-year-old had access to highly-classified documents, and if anyone assisted in the leak.
Rep. Gaetz's legislation is considered a Privileged Resolution of Inquiry, meaning it's given top priority on the House floor. Gaetz is asking for copies of any and all documents outlining plans for military assistance to Ukraine. It also orders Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to disclose the number of United States Armed Forces, including special operators, deployed to Ukraine without Congressional authority.
“The Biden Administration and other allied countries have been misleading the world on the state of the war in Ukraine," Gaetz said in a press release. "There must be total transparency from this administration to the American people when they are gambling war with a nuclear adversary by having special forces operating in Ukraine."
If there's one thing that's clear from this week's drama in Washington, it's that the people are rarely offered truth and complete transparency.
That applies to the Russia-Ukraine war as well as domestic issues, like spending bills, the border crisis, FBI raids, and Covid-19. We the People always seem to be left in the dark while "servant leaders" serve themselves.
