FL Team holds Rally in Tally Feb 8, 2022

Published in Blog on February 11, 2022 by Nancy Suits

We gained ground this year because the Capital Building was open to visitors for our annual visit to Tallahassee on February 8, 2022. (Last year we did it in the rain and weren’t allowed into the Capitol buildings, at all.) Our aim is to educate all Legislators on Article V and the Convention of States Resolution passed in FL in 2014.

And a Journalist attended the Rally from the Epoch Times to report on the Team progress.

We started the trip by gathering the night before then in the morning we all met to pray for our legislators on the 22nd floor. We wandered the halls, greeting the gate-keepers for our legislators and even some of the legislators, themselves, as we delivered packets to each legislator's office.

Denah Butts said "I enjoyed support from a random IT gentleman working on the computer of a legislative assistant who knew exactly who we were, said it was passed time, and wished us luck; I was greeted with smiles by random people in hallways and elevators who recognized our COS shirts and buttons and offered looks of pride and hope and words of encouragement.

I appreciated the legislators who recognized us as well as the many staff members who we had the opportunity to educate."

Florida Legislators received information packets and were very interested in our progress to hold a Convention of States.

In addition to connecting with the legislators and their gatekeepers, a few of us made our way to the Veteran Affairs office where we were invited to sit for a few minutes and share about who we are and what we are doing. To receive so much respect from people to whom we owe so much was truly moving.

Finally, looking forward to next year, we will be striving to get ahead of the game. As COS has crossed the half-way mark and media attention continues to grow, we grow ever closer to the day of our convention and therefore to the day when we will look to our state legislators to ratify the amendments, we all pray for every day. It becomes increasingly important for us to be heard.

We will strive to get on the calendar as quickly as possible for the 4th week of session, next year and every year thereafter. The feedback, thus far, is that can be considered once this session has ended.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
