The longer we wait to deal with reality the bigger the price tag. Shane Parrish
Particle Physics Meets “DEI”
Society’s recent fling with rejecting objective truths by promoting unlimited genders, climate change, and pretending that socialism works (to name just a few inane topics) in favor of DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity) has put Shane Parrish’s quote front and center. The Covid 19 pandemic/endemic exposed the effort to pervert STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Doctors, researchers and health administrators were blackballed by social media and government just for raising questions related to therapeutic treatments, vaccine efficacy, masking, etc.
Even the rarified science of particle physics has been caught in the DEI trap. Renowned Italian physicist Allesandro Strumia was suspended from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) for contributing an essay refuting the need for gender quotas at CERN. Not to be silenced, Strumia published his work in the American periodical “Science”.
Why DEI Cannot Co-exist with STEM
“Follow the science” was repeated ad nauseam during 2020 and beyond but how many citizens understood what science requires?
The scientific method requires clear and rigorous steps for validation of a conclusion:
1. Make an observation.
2. Ask a question.
3. Form a hypothesis, or testable explanation.
4. Make a prediction based on the hypothesis.
5. Test the prediction.
6. Iterate: use the results to make new hypotheses or predictions.
If gender, race or some other “virtue signal” criteria is placed ahead of this sequence then, at best, a misleading conclusion will be drawn (men can be women) or worse, lives will be lost (because proper-pronoun educated automotive engineers lack full math skills). Whatever the DEI agenda may be, the scientific method will ALWAYS prevail. Why: Because facts are stubborn things.
What Price Will Be Paid For Perverting STEM?
The average person can recognize the silliness of multiple genders or racist math classes but the perversion of STEM in education is insidious. Class work for STEM careers is arduous. Many courses involve abstract math and physics concepts that are only conquered by a combination of interest and ability.
If skin color, gender (real or imagined) or any of the latest “victim categories” of a performance based system are given preferred status over more talented STEM candidates, then quality decline sets in. How safe is flying in a plane designed by engineers who were taught the right answer may be racist? Will patients feel comfortable placing their bodies in the hands of surgeons who were admitted to medical school because their melanin content or belief system aligned with DEI programs?
The Scientific Method Proves Perversion Fails
Although Allesandro Strumia was ostracized by CERN and other scientific associations he was ultimately proven correct in his assessment that CERN was wrong on the need for gender quotas. As noted earlier, the scientific method is a rigorous application of sequential steps and iterative evaluation of results to determine a valid conclusion. Mr. Strumia had faith that other scientists would evaluate the veracity of his findings.
In 2021 Mr. Strumia posted that his findings had not only been published in Quantitative Science Studies but had also been peer reviewed, debated, made public and found to be in agreement with other studies. A perversion of fact cannot overcome the actual fact. Truth won out in the end.
COS Arguments and Reality
COS faces similar difficulties. Individuals and organizations have leveled accusations and criticisms regarding an Article V convention that are decidedly false. Like DEI encroachment on STEM, the opposition to COS is rooted in an agenda that opposes the Founding Fathers’ vision of a people free to pursue life, liberty and happiness.
Like Mr. Strumia, we at COS must stand fast in our knowledge that the FACTS are with us. Unrelenting purpose and education of our fellow citizens and legislators regarding Article V are essential to saving the USA.
