“What’s important is making sure legislators hear and understand the voice of the people.” That is Chuck Connolly’s COS mission. Yes, there are lots of ways to say it and various steps to achieve it, but Chuck thinks relationships are key.
With many years of sales experience and a natural ease connecting with people, Chuck came to understand the value of COS through a neighbor. Like many of us he is disturbed by what he sees as moral decline in our schools, politics, and especially at the U. S. southern border.
He intended to start slowly, only as a tele-patriot and as a follow-up helper who welcomes new petition signers. Before long he accepted a role as district captain (DC) and now he is also regional captain (RC) for districts 31 - 35.
Chuck experienced the challenges of manning a COS booth at various fairs and gun shows. Without dependable volunteer activists, he acknowledges that spreading the word about Article V can be a struggle.
To build his Vero Beach and Indian River County team Chuck offers regular monthly Zoom meetings. He also strives for weekly contact with his new district captains and volunteers because regular meetings allow people to play off of and motivate each other with ideas for projects. Adding details to the COS calendar (at left) allows attendees to plan ahead.
Chuck credits several other COS members whose ideas and assistance helped him gain access to Brevard and Indian River County legislative delegation meetings. Legislators are required to meet annually with constituents so COS is now on their agendas for a three-minute explanation of our platform. Chuck’s relationships with Troy Darling, Legislative Liaison 51 (LL), John Cunningham, RC 4 DC 13-15, and Michelle LaFlamme, Florida LL inspire him to grow and foster personal connections with local legislators.
With his volunteers Chuck cultivates other interactions with local mayors, state representatives, and senators. Some projects include holding a Vero Beach town hall, encouraging volunteers to hand write personal letters to legislators, and preparing for both the Rally in Tally and the state strategy meeting. All of this takes a lot of time, effort, and commitment.
When asked how he manages to stay positive in the face of disappointment, Chuck launches enthusiastically into a referral to Crossroads.
Chuck claims that the crossroads where the Bible and Constitution, or faith and culture meet provides guidance for the see-saw of life. The book Servant Leadership by Dave Kuhnert is foundational to the COS management style and structure taught by Mark Meckler and Rita Peters. For a glimpse of how inspiring these ideas can be, check out this video of Mark and Rita.
If we recognize our role is to serve and help each other, we gain more clarity about doing what needs to be done now. Chuck also recommends The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.
Seeing the need for a spiritual revolution, Chuck is anxious to do more. He is always looking for a few more soldiers for our grassroots army and he hopes you will join us in returning our country to its full glorious potential.
