North Carolina Can Still be State #20

Published in Uncategorized on November 23, 2024 by Melissa Martin

2024 has been a whirlwind. What has been going on? Over the past year, the North Carolina Convention of State Action Volunteers have been actively communicating the Article V COS message at petition tables, breakfasts, town halls, an annual rally, and visits to the capitol in Raleigh on key legislative days. Convention of States Action volunteers campaigned for pro-COS candidates which is an important part of our strategy. Since the 2020 election cycle, we have campaigned for a total of 92 House and Senate candidates. Of those campaigns, 69 won for an overall success rate over the last three election cycles of 75%. We have over that time completed +220,000 individual voter interactions and participated in several very close races over that time. All with volunteers.

The main function of these activities is to grow the largest grassroots army of self-governing citizens. What does that mean? Grassroots are the volunteers who are talking to people about the solution as big as the problem of federal government overreach at these events.

Why are we doing it?

Washington, DC is broken, and congress is not going to limit its own power or have any kind of meaningful reform unless the states get involved using Article V amendments convention to restore the balance of power.

The Article V Process was inserted into the US Constitution because the Founding Fathers knew that We the People through state legislatures would need a way to amend the Constitution, especially if there was an out-of-control tyrannical government

NC Resolution status and what you can do:

The Convention of States resolution passed the House in March 2023, but has not been voted on in the Senate. The Article V Convention of States is the only place where state senators have a duty on the federal level, to address the nonsense that is happening in our country. Because of their ability through the Constitution to get the resolution passed, NC COS volunteers have been writing notes, calling and emailing legislators to educate them on Article V and to urge them to make NC, state #20. To carry the momentum that has built up this session, it is important that we get more active grassroots volunteers.
