National grassroots survey of conservative grassroots activists say lasting change can only come with a seismic shift at the federal level

Published in Blog on December 05, 2017 by Convention of States Project

A new, nationwide survey of more than 3,200 grassroots volunteers in all 50 states released today by Convention of States (COS) Action, highlights the burgeoning frustrations of the American people.

Almost half of respondents – 47 percent – have joined the grassroots Convention of States movement within the last year, showing the growing number of citizens that are angry with elected officials in Washington, and are seeking to reign in power, returning it back to the states, and back to the people.  While many of the volunteers have just joined Convention of States, 64 percent have been involved in politics in some capacity in the past.

Mark Meckler, tea party co-founder, leader of the Convention of States Project and President of Citizens for Self-Governance said, “They are the hardworking Americans who are willing to put in “sweat equity,” by calling potential voters, canvassing neighborhoods, and urging their fellow citizens to become more active in the civic work of their communities and nation.”

Amongst Convention of States grassroots activists, however, there’s a conflict over whether they believe President Donald Trump can succeed or whether Republicans and Democrats will continue to thwart his efforts; 51 percent of the volunteers interviewed believed Congress would continue to block President Trump’s efforts.

When asked on whom our activists place the blame for the inability to accomplish anything in Washington, most agreed the political establishment, followed closely by the media.

Activists were also asked what most attracts them to the Convention of States Project, a similar suspicion of the government is clearly shown:

  1. Congress will never propose the proper kind of amendments to restrain itself.
  2. Returning decision making closer to the citizens of the sovereign states.
  3. This solution bypasses Congress and the Courts and is from “We the People.”
  4. This is a permanent solution to draining the swamp no matter who controls DC in the future.

**The survey results were based on over 3,200 interviews conducted among two million plus grassroots leaders and volunteers. The interviewing dates were June 23- June 27, 2017.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
