Each year, a moving and meaningful National Day of Prayer event takes place near where Plymouth Colony was established in 1620 by English Separatists -- more familiarly known as the Pilgrims -- in the hope of establishing self-governance and religious liberty without interference from a distant authority. This they did in the form of the Mayflower Compact.
The theme of the 2025 National Day of Prayer is derived from Romans 15:13 -- "Pour out to the God of HOPE and be filled."
This year's celebration of faith and reaffirmation of the principles of the Mayflower Compact in Plymouth, Massachusetts, will be held May 1 at Faith Community Church from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
This event is sponsored by the Jenney Interpretive Centre and its founders, Leo Martin and his wife, Nancy Martin, who are also directors of the Jenney. The Martins have conducted educational tours of Plymouth and embarked on speaking engagements across the country during which they emphasize the significance of the Pilgrims and the Biblical principles upon which the republic was founded.
Local pastors and community leaders will also be joining the Martins as featured speakers at the National Day of Prayer.
Faith Community Church is located at 29 Carver Road in Plymouth. If you will be attending, parking is available, but carpooling is encouraged.
Prior to the gathering at Faith Community Church, Convention of States grassroots activists and Patriot Academy members will meet at the National Monument to the Forefathers for fellowship and prayer at 11:00 a.m. The monument is located at 72 Allerton Street in Plymouth.
Convention of States Regional Director Michael Arnold will be leading the Pledge of Allegiance at both events.
The National Day of Prayer was designated by the U.S. Congress in 1952 as an annual day of observance to be held on the first Thursday in May of each year. By law, the President of the United States is required to sign a proclamation annually that urges the people of the United States on that day in May to "turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals."
As COS president and co-founder Mark Meckler has said of the significance of the day:
"The National Day of Prayer is very important because the nation needs to return to regular prayer. It is a reminder that the nation was founded by families who believed in God, and God's hand in its founding and protection. It must remain so if we are to prosper in the future."
The event promises an afternoon of reverence, reaffirmation, and rededication to the words in Romans and the Mayflower Compact the latter of which reads in part:
"Having undertaken for the Glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith...do by these presents solemnly and mutually in the presence of God and of one another, combine ourselves in a civic Body Politick, for our better Ordering and Preservation, and Furtherance of the Ends aforesaid; And by Virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions, and Offices, from time to time as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the General good of the Colony, unto which we promise all due Submission and Obedience."
There is no cost to attend the National Day of Prayer events at the Monument to the Forefathers or Faith Community Church and no registration is required. Donations are welcome to help defray the cost of the event.
