Over the years, our self-governing grassroots activists have delivered too many phenomenal testimonies to count. But perhaps the most memorable in recent history comes from a 10-year-old boy who bravely spoke up for COS in front of a committee full of Maryland legislators.
Not only was his testimony remarkably articulate, but it also exhibited an extraordinary amount of knowledge concerning America’s Founding, Constitution and federalism (how many adults could even define federalism?).
“The Founding Fathers built America to have freedom from the excessive power of the monarchy of England,” the young man explained. “The founders and framers made sure that a government system would work to protect the people’s rights and freedom. The Constitution was written and federalism was born in America.”
This up-and-coming COS superstar went on to defend the benefits of federalism, describing it as an essential component of our American society. He then made an effective, emotional plea for his legislators to pass the COS resolution:
“We children do not want self-serving politicians….we want good education and great leaders to teach us. You are our leaders. You are our examples. I humbly ask you, senators, please support [the COS resolution]. Please do not forget what our Founding Fathers and framers set out to do. Do not let our federal government go unchecked. Protect us, your children. Your future.”
