Donnie Rutherford is serving as a Convention of States District Captain for Florida House District 63, just north of Tampa.
He currently serves by establishing a line of communication and creating a group of dedicated volunteers in his district. He can now teach newly-inducted District Captains and even oversees nearby District 84 as they too search for a leader. But who is Donnie Rutherford?
Donnie Rutherford is a former Senior Master Sargent of the Air Force, a role that imbued him with skills of discipline and leadership. He is a St. Leo College Alum and has served as a database manager in both a public and private capacity.
He originally found out about the Convention of States through talk show host Mark Levin. After conducting some research, he instantly knew that this was an organization he wanted to be a part of.
Donnie believes that the people are what makes America great and thinks taxes should be lowered across the board. He believes that state sovereignty should be revived as per the vision of the Founding Fathers, and he is strongly opposed to illegal immigration.
His advice to new District Captions is to tailor their approach to what their residents want and need. Additionally, all District Captains should work with their team of hand-selected volunteers and delegate roles effectively. Lastly, recruit a followup person. This person is critical in establishing an effective line of communication in light of the core state strategy to build a team of devoted volunteers.
Rutherford is planning to reach out to the Filipino community with the vision of Convention of States. He is also looking to form a stronger Veterans Coalition within the state of Florida to show the true support our organization receives form those who have served.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, Rutherford has continued to hold fast and has even doubled down on operations within his district. In the past two weeks, he has seen recruitment numbers rise to their highest levels of the year.
Rutherford is the prime example of a team player and someone who wishes to expand the organization to other communities. He wants to help new District Captains for years to come and ensure we operate as an effective team of dedicated engaged citizens of Florida.
