Over the weekend, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy threatened Attorney General Merrick Garland with impeachment after a whistleblower alleged that Garland had interfered in U.S. Attorney David Weiss’s criminal investigation into Hunter Biden.
Last week, House Ways and Means Committee chairman, Jason Smith, released whistleblower testimonies accusing the Justice Department of blocking critical information in the Hunter Biden investigation and ultimately blocking Weiss from bringing charges against the president’s son. Smith also uncovered a damning WhatsApp message in which Joe Biden and Hunter purportedly coerced a Chinese businessman. The message quickly gained notoriety in light of Biden’s 2020 campaign promise that he had not been involved in any of his son’s business deals.
The White House repeatedly refused to answer questions about the scandal, as seen below.

Speaker McCarthy, however, responded by suggesting that an impeachment inquiry into Garland may be in order if the testimonies are confirmed.
“If the whistleblowers' allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland's weaponization of [the] DOJ,” he said on Twitter, citing evidence that the claims are “easily corroborated.”
Garland—who has been involved in everything from treating parents at school board meetings like terrorists, intimidating pro-life activists, and prosecuting former President Donald Trump—refuted the accusations categorically.
“I don’t know how it would be possible for anybody to block him [Mr. Weiss] from bringing a prosecution given that he has this authority,” Garland asserted in a press conference. “He was given complete authority to make all decisions on his own.”
Breaking reports now suggest that Merrick Garland will appear before the House Judiciary Committee in September, facing many of his toughest critics, some of whom have called for his impeachment, according to CNN.
Even as Congress looks into these explosive allegations, concerns over a “weaponized” Department of Justice remain a serious issue for the American people. According to polling, 80 percent of voters say there are two tiers of justice in the American justice system: one set of laws for politicians and Washington D.C. insiders vs. one set of laws for everyday Americans.
“What we’re seeing reflected strongly in these numbers is the sentiment that ‘There is no equal justice in America’ has become an almost universally-held opinion,” said Mark Meckler, president of Convention of States. “Until public servants are once again held accountable for their misdeeds, the distrust of and disdain for government officials will continue to grow in a dangerous manner.”
But here is the good news: Americans are finally realizing that the federal government is too corrupt to fix itself.
The only political solution to fixing our two-tiered justice system is through an Article V convention, which the American people can call through their state legislatures. To urge your legislator to support this important constitutional solution today, sign the Convention of States petition below.
