In today's edition of D.C. Corruption, Fox News is reporting that California Rep. Maxine Waters paid her own daughter $240,000 this election cycle for campaign work.
And it's not the first time.
Karen Waters, Rep. Waters' daughter, was paid over $200,000 in 2018 for similar campaign work, and a 2004 report by the L.A. Times found that the Waters family pocketed over $1 million for work related to the representative's political endeavors.
The best part? Waters heads the House Financial Services Committee, which deals with our country's financial topics ranging from banking to insurance to housing. In other words, one of the politicians supposedly responsible for weeding out corruption in our country's financial sector is herself using her position to enrich members of her own family.
It's no wonder the American people don't trust Congress. As the late Senator Tom Coburn so succinctly put it in his testimony before Congress, "America doesn't trust you."
If you're tired of hearing about corruption and self-dealing in Congress, we have a solution: an Article V Convention of States.
A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can limit federal power, impose fiscal restraints on Congress, and mandate term limits for career politicians like Waters.
Our public servants shouldn't be able to use their position to enrich themselves and their families. At a Convention of States, the people and the states can propose amendments the effectively end this practice and ensure our elected representatives remain in their constitutional box.
