The only way to fundamentally alter the trajectory of this country is by taking power away from the Washington swamp, Mark Levin proclaimed this week.
During his evening radio show, Levin insisted that despite convincing attempts to fix the federal government, Washington will never – and ultimately can never – fix Washington.
No matter the political side, any impact within the D.C. framework will never be enough. A genuine solution, however, lies in Article V of the Constitution.
"The reason why I support Convention of States is because I'm convinced that the only way to fundamentally alter the trajectory of this country is not watching TV and listening to the politicians or reading columns," he said. "It's by taking the power out of Washington. And we're already organized to fight this."
He brought a compelling argument to the table; as popular as Reagan was, he couldn't significantly cut the debt back in the 1980s when he won 59% of the vote. He won more electoral college votes than any president in American history, and still, he couldn't cut the debt "because the system in Washington is corrupt."
"It is institutionally and fundamentally built to do the opposite of what should be done."
If Reagan couldn't change the system as president, it's unlikely that any future president will be capable of bringing effective, long-lasting change.
Convention of States gives the states an opportunity to implement effective change by proposing amendments that can reduce the government's size, scope, and jurisdiction.
