During a visit to Canada on Friday, President Biden admitted that America is set on becoming closer with Canada, despite the many examples of power abuse displayed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
While Americans have watched Canada shift from a free nation to a country burdened by government overreach more expansive than in the U.S., the unification will be anything but beneficial to freedom-loving Americans.
"The United States chooses to link our future with Canada’s because we know that we will find no better partner, no more reliable ally, no more steady friend," Biden wrote to Twitter.
Trudeau has enabled the Canadian government to clamp down on its citizens repeatedly in various circumstances:
Just one year ago, thousands swarmed the capitol in Ottawa to protest the government’s economy-crippling COVID mask and vaccine mandates. The trucker convoy began in Canada's Western Provinces and worked its way across the continent. Trudeau utilized emergency police powers to shut down the opposition by freezing private citizens' bank accounts and implementing "no-go" zones.
The government also used citizens’ cell phones to track and monitor their activity during the pandemic. It secretly compiled “a detailed snapshot of people’s behaviour, including visits to the grocery store, gatherings with family and friends, time spent at home and trips to other towns and provinces.”
The Canadian government mandated travelers use the ArriveCAN app “to provide mandatory travel and public health information before and after… entry into Canada.” The information, which goes straight to the Canadian government, includes “contact information, travel plans, and proof of vaccination.”
When it comes to firearms, the prime minister officially imposed a handgun freeze in October 2022, effectively ending Canada’s handgun market. The sweeping gun control legislation outlawed the purchase, sale, or transfer of handguns in Canada and blocks citizens from bringing new guns from outside the country.
With all these extreme examples of overreach, Biden has determined that America will "link our future with Canada’s."
"The same fundamental aspirations reverberate across both the United States and Canada. To live in freedom – with dignity," Biden remarked. Yet these brief examples paint a different picture of Canadians' independence and the country's fundamental aspirations.
"Canada and the United States can do big things – because we do them together."
While Biden didn't learn any lessons from our neighbors up north, the American people did.
