Medical tyranny in Canada may have fallen out of the mainstream news cycle but Americans still ought to be concerned by our northern neighbors’ loss of freedom–and concerned by the possibility that what happens in Canada might also happen here in the United States.
U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik recently called for the Canadian government to end mandatory use of its controversial ArriveCAN app which travelers must use “to provide mandatory travel and public health information before and after… entry into Canada.” The information, which goes straight to the Canadian government, includes “contact information, travel plans, and proof of vaccination.”
This app, which enables the government to keep close tabs on Canadian citizens, is so Orwellian, it sounds like something straight out of a fictional dystopian novel. Besides sharing private information with a sinister federal government, the ArriveCAN app has also been the subject of other controversies.
Earlier this summer, an alleged “glitch” caused the app to mistakenly send messages to more than 10,000 people requiring that they self-quarantine. The government didn’t notify those affected of the error until 12 days later.
The government also used citizens’ cell phones to track and monitor their activity during the pandemic and to secretly compile “a detailed snapshot of people’s behaviour, including visits to the grocery store, gatherings with family and friends, time spent at home and trips to other towns and provinces.”
Thank God the COVID crackdowns never became quite as bad in America as they did in Canada. That being said, in light of the many lessons we learned about our elected officials during 2020 and beyond, we still ought to be concerned: from lockdowns to vaccine mandates, politicians on both sides of the aisle acted, and continue to act as if they have unlimited power.
If our government truly believes it can do whatever it wants, who’s to say it won’t attempt to introduce its own equivalent of Canada's ArriveCAN app? We must remain vigilant and continue to fight against any attempt to take away our freedoms under the deceptive guise of “public health.”
The best way we can do this is through a Convention of States. Once 34 state legislatures apply for a convention under Article V of the Constitution, a Convention of States must be called. This constitutional solution would empower us to take decision-making powers back from the government and return them to We the People - and there’s nothing D.C. can do to stop it.
