Doug was a Navy pilot in 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down. That collapse symbolized the end of the Cold War, and recognition that Communism had failed miserably to provide economic prosperity for eastern Europe.
Looking forward to an era of world peace, Doug went home to raise a family.
It turns out our world was not safe; our freedoms could still be stolen. COVID lockdowns and quarantines caused significant personal losses in the Ross family. Doug quickly recognized other challenges to American liberties. He is once again back on high alert.
Originally from Wisconsin, Doug has been a long-time resident of Miami. He graduated from the US Naval Academy, retired from Delta Airlines as a captain, and now works as an investment advisor. He also volunteers with Convention of States and the Association of Mature American Citizens. In his free time, he enjoys writing.
Speak Up
Writing letters to editors is something anyone can do, and COS hopes all supporters will be inspired to follow Doug’s lead and speak up for what you believe. In agreement with the Convention of States platform seeking term limits, fiscal restraint and limits to federal bureaucracy, Doug writes to draw attention to deviations from the founding principles of democracy. His articles, such as this one on nullification, highlight historical lessons for today, if only we would pay attention.
Newspapers welcome readers’ opinions as a form of feedback and engagement. You don’t have to be a scholar to point out that much of what is portrayed in the media as the new normal, is not acceptable to everyone. Contact your local COS captain for help defending standards such as individual responsibility and rights that this country prospered under.

Doug first signed the COS petition in 2018, but he didn’t get serious about taking COS University courses until 2022. By September he was a District Captain in FL HD 106, Miami. By January 2023 he became COS Region 18 Captain which includes districts FL HD 106-113.
Observing and interacting with other enthusiastic COS volunteers like Ed Vidal, HD 115 Legislative Liaison and Henry Pedroso, DC 119 spurred even more commitment from Doug.
Last year both AMAC and COS, along with the Holy Spirit, inspired me to run for office and take up patriotic action. I am but a small voice in the patriot choir, but it is inspiring to hear the chorus grow louder every day.
Although convening a convention of states is a huge goal, the even bigger COS mission is to build an engaged army of self-governing grassroots activists. With that in mind Doug hopes to find a solid captain for every district in his region. He then plans to help these DCs get their own support teams filled out.
