Many in Lake County are unaware that Georgefest in Eustis, Florida is now the longest, continuously running celebration of George Washington’s birthday in the nation. This year’s theme is “We the People.”
Retail marketers appropriated George Washington's Birthday after the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed in 1968, referring to this national holiday instead as Presidents’ Day to boost their sales. However, we know the holiday was originally about honoring our first president.
Convention of States is thrilled to participate in the Georgefest celebration by hosting a booth at this fun event. It is the second largest Lake County event that COS participates in every year, second only to The Leesburg Bikefest in Leesburg, Florida the last weekend in April.
George Washington on stilts is a crowd favorite. He is particularly fond of our patriotically decorated booth as it makes such a wonderful backdrop for taking photos with guests participating in the celebration.
At the COS booth, we will be giving away Pocket Constitutions and various "rack cards" for attendees, as well as flag pins for Veterans. For the kids we have flag wristbands, Constitution activity books, and lollipops. We will also be giving "support sticker” to petition signers who indicate an interest in becoming a COS volunteer.
This family-friendly, yearly event takes place the fourth week in February to encompass Washington’s February 22nd birthday. Vendors and visitors participate in the event on Friday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM in downtown Eustis.
Tell your friends and neighbors, and make plans to swing by to join in the festivities this weekend. Remember to visit our COS booth to say hello. You can even help to draw attention to our booth simply be wearing a COS shirt to the event.
We look forward to seeing you there.
