John Cunningham, Beyond Interested, Passionate

Published in Blog on December 12, 2022 by Cynthia Kisby

Like many of us, John was looking for a way to create meaningful memories with granddaughter, Ashley. Together they signed up for the Hillsdale College course Constitution 101 and every Sunday night they compared notes about lessons from that week.

It was the explanation of the administrative state that propelled John to COS action. For the first time he could clearly see the catastrophic results of 100 years of vague congressional laws handed over to unaccountable bureaucrats. Anger is a very effective motivator.

It’s not like this was the first time John thought about politics. As a younger man he wondered, “What is the political truth?” Are some people truly evil, and why would they want to destroy this country?

He recently concluded that neither political party cares about We the People. Politicians only care about getting re-elected. Term limits could be the single most important factor in fixing that issue.

Although term limits make up only one third of the COS platform, that was enough inspiration for John to sign up first as a prayer warrior, soon followed by a role as social media warrior.

Reconstructing a Moral Society

John admits he was then turbocharged by the Patriot Academy. After listening to hundreds of hours of Rick Green, Mark Meckler, and Michael Farris, he takes great comfort in knowing that our founding society was much more moral and biblical than it is today. “We’ve gotten away from God, but we have a chance with COS to realign.” He does not see his role as trying to convince people to be Christians, just to point out that without high standards people will be corrupt.

It didn’t take long for John to recognize the painful shortage of district captains within the COS Florida structure. For goals to be accomplished someone has to be the initiator, organizer, motivator, and conqueror.

Though John repeatedly claims he does not want to be a manager, he is very good at taking action and achieving desired outcomes.

For example, he:

  • Inspired his district captain to have their first group meeting
  • Attends two COS meetings each week to keep learning
  • Responds to podcasts, shows COS as a solution, and shares his COS contact info
  • Joined toastmasters to improve his presentation skills
  • Held his own district meeting with his customized version of the COS slide show
  • Shadowed Coach Thomas at the Daytona Flea & Farmers’ Market COS booth
  • Set up a COS booth to gather petitions at the Ramona Flea Market in JAX
  • Attended the Duval Delegation and plans to speak at next opportunity
  • Became DC for not one, but three house districts and also serves as Regional Captain

John leaves no stone unturned when it comes to supporting COS. When national COS organized a contest for volunteers to do a brief video elevator pitch about COS, John created this sixty-second entry for the COS Voices contest.

John hopes for “more people like me." When people are interested, they act when it’s convenient. But when they are passionate, nothing gets in their way.

John is passionate about saving this country from corruption and immorality. If you live anywhere near Jacksonville, you will not regret a meeting with this dedicated patriot.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
