The passage of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (HR1319) is a perfect example of how our leaders have let us down, yet again.
The bulk of the 1.9 trillion dollars does not rescue us from the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the allocations are for wasteful "pork," as usual. The result is another absurd increase to the overall national debt.
Moreover, this comes at a time when a lot of the funding from prior stimulus bills have not been fully spent.
Congress will continue to waste our tax dollars simply because they can. As long as they can secure more power and personal wealth from these deals, they will continue to yield to the temptation.
They won’t stop until we make them stop. We the People need to take back control.
That’s why the Convention of States is needed as soon as possible.
The amendments to be proposed at the Convention of States will address the topics of overreach, fiscal responsibility, and term limits. These are precisely the kind of restrictions needed to prevent future bills like HR1319.
The Convention of States Project can best be described as a marathon, not a sprint.
As of this posting, 15 state legislatures have approved the application, with 19 more needed to convene a Convention of States. Several states are currently considering passage of the COS resolution.
The effectiveness of states passing the COS resolution has much to do with strong grassroots support. As large numbers of the local grassroots engage with their state representatives, the state legislatures become responsive to their unique role in calling a Convention of States.
We have to roll up our sleeves and seriously get to work. Millions of us working together will make the difference.
