"Goin' to the Capitol" in Louisiana

Published in Blog on January 24, 2025 by Matt May

Building professional, personal, and productive relationships with state legislators and staff is vital to the success not only of calling an Article V convention, but initiatives such as 34|Ready and F3 legislation. You have the opportunity to hear from the man who leads one of the most effective legislative teams in COS.

Dale Clary, Legislative Liaison for COS Louisiana is the featured guest on the latest episode of "Grassroots Groundbreakers". Listen by clicking here

Host and COSA chief grassroots officer Mike Ruthenberg talks with Dale -- an attorney and outdoorsman -- about this year's session of the Louisiana legislature, visiting with legislators in their district offices as well as in Baton Rouge, and volunteers being prepared and presentable when meeting with state representatives and senators.

Dale also discusses how the COS Louisiana legislative team of volunteers meets monthly to strategize, and shares many of the innovative ideas that have led to great success.

Louisiana passed the COS resolution in 2016 and a resolution for selecting commissioners to an Article V convention in 2018. But the Louisiana COS team has continued to make its presence well-known in Baton Rouge, and their work yielded significant progress in 2024 alone.

HB 763, an election integrity legislation bill, passed the Louisiana legislature and was signed into law by Governor Jeff Landry on June 11. Also, HB 114, which establishes a clear process for updating the state’s voter rolls, passed the legislature and also received Landry's signature on June 11.

Legislation that bans international government organizations such as the United Nations, the World Health Organization, and the World Economic Forum from asserting any jurisdiction in Louisiana was signed into law by Landry on May 28.

All of those bills were vigorously supported by the engaged Louisiana team.

Dale shares a wealth of useful information for grassroots that has proved fruitful and can be applied in each state as volunteers establish the vital outreach and connections that will lead to 34 states calling for an Article V convention.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
